“Don’t say a word, sweetheart,” Lawson says. “Take her inside, Luka.”
“Come on.” Luka wraps his arm around my middle, tugging me away from Law. “We get to watch from the nosebleed seats.”
“Please don’t touch him,” I say as Luka guides me around the front of my car. “It’s not worth it. He will press charges.”
“Don’t worry,” Lawson says, sounding amused. “I’m not putting my ability to climb into bed next to you every night at risk for that piece of shit.”
“He’ll be fine,” Luka whispers. “Don’t stress.”
That’s easier said than done.
I peek over my shoulder, and Shadow runs in a semicircle around Tommy, backing him toward his SUV.
Oh, God.
I think I’m going to give myself an ulcer.

Luka guides me inside the house, and Bryant follows us in.
“This is such a bad idea,” I whisper as Bryant closes the door. “Lawson needs witnesses in case Tommy tries to say he did something that he really didn’t do.”
“I would counter that Law might not want witnesses for whatever comes next.” Bryant chuckles, crossing his arms over his chest.
My eyes narrow, but I can already tell there’s no way I’ll be able to get by him to get back out the door.
I take off for the family room and climb onto the couch.
Bryant and Luka hit the cushions on either side of mine. Then it’s all three of us peeking out of the blinds.
Lawson looms over Tommy.
I can’t see much else, since the door of the SUV blocks most of Tommy from view.
Lawson jabs a finger at him, and even though I can only see his side profile, I can tell he’s not happy.
Okay, maybe I’m picking up his distaste in the bond.
Lawson grabs Tommy’s door, his huge hand wrapping around the metal. Based on the rocking of the vehicle, it looks like Tommy scrambles inside.
Law slams the door and crosses his arms over his chest.
Shadow runs up to the porch, and Lawson steps to the side of the driveway, watching as Tommy loops around up by the house and drives off toward the road.
“Huh, that was kinda anticlimactic,” Bryant says, chuckling as he releases his hold on the blinds.
Lawson makes his way toward the house in long strides, and I finally feel like I can breathe.
“Thank goodness,” I whisper.
“Lawson doesn’t have to put his hands on someone to let them know the deal,” Luka says, popping off the couch. “I’m going to let them in. Shadow is probably tired of waiting.”
“You feel better now?” Bryant asks, tossing his arm around my shoulder.
I nod, but my body betrays the lie, and my head shakes. “I don’t know. He can be so spiteful. What if he comes back with the police?”
“Don’t worry about that,” Lawson says, coming into the room with Shadow at his side.
