“You think you’ve won.” She works her jaw. “You have no idea what you’re up against.”

My brow hikes and I look at Cade. “We have no idea?”

“Apparently not.”

I look back at her. “Enlighten us.”

She scoffs. “Your mate,” she spits the word like it tastes disgusting, “is in high demand.”

Cade and I exchange glances again.

“You three aren’t the only ones looking for her.”

“Is that right?”

“Yeah.” She coughs. “Dangerous people are after her.”

Cade chuckles, and it’s a deliciously evil sound. “We’re the most dangerous people you’ve ever met.”

The hag cackles. “You’re a bunch of suits cosplaying as vigilantes. I know who you are. You’re billionaire business owners. You own Helix.”

I hum. “The hag knows how to use the internet. Apparently, we should be frightened.”

“To be fair, the internet can be a scary place.”

“You two idiots don’t know who you’re dealing with. Who she is.”

“Did Mikhail tell you fairy tales? I mean, you are a hag, after all. You must love fairy tales.”

“It isn’t a fairy tale.”

“No? What is it, then?”

Her lips purse, gaze sweeps to the side, just as a car door opens and closes in the driveway.

“Well, if you won’t speak to us,” Cade begins, “I know who will get you to talk.”

We both turn to busted down front door to greet our visitor.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Ilya

The moment I stepped foot into the dark basement, my senses were almost completely overwhelmed. There are mingling scents in the air, some of them very old and some of them new. Things like vomit and piss, strong chemicals, a mixture of cleaning and more nefarious compounds. There are scents of people around as well, some of them of all different designations. But one scent reaches me from the depths, and that is Sin. Her floral rose and bluebell scent reaches me even as from as far as all the way in the back of the basement, where I track it to.

It’s easy to see that this basement has been modeled for very specific purposes. A long corridor, doors on either side, and in the back, with only two T-sections of cross hallways. And those cross sections are where the guards begin to file out.

As I move down the main corridor, whenever the sound of movement makes my ears twitch, I move like I’m floating on the air, turning toward them and firing my 9-mm. There are a lot of guards here. Far more than I even expected.

So what exactly is this monster defending against? He wasn’t even a blip on our radar until today.

When my 9-mm is empty, instead of reaching for a new clip and reloading, I stuff it back into its holster and pull out my twin 45’s.

I stopped counting after snuffing the lives of ten guards, and when they keep coming, I don’t stop. I don’t ask questions. I don’t even demand that they tell me where my Omega is.

Everyone here must die.

I follow Sin’s scent to the back of the basement, along the way clearing the other rooms behind closed doors to avoid any surprises, kicking the doors in and taking out anyone who’s inside the room, until I come across a captive. A young Omega. Far too young. In this room full of loud music, she’s surrounded by three naked men, while she is bound and suspended in the air. What they are doing to her, is something that will stay with me until the day that I die. And while their deaths are far too quick, I take their lives in front of the young girl, and hopes that maybe seeing her perpetrators’ lives end will give some semblance of solace, if not now, perhaps later.
