But would Mama go to these lengths for one of her numerous submissives? It’s more likely she’d sell them off like meat if the opportunity arose.
Even still.
I let my voice fall so low and quiet that the other three Omegas lean in to hear my words as I point to the open binder, like I’m showing them something. Explaining it.
“She’s keeping me from my mates.”
The entire table stills, rigid shock coursing through each of their bodies as their eyes go wide. I watch the thoughts process in their brains before dropping my head. I don’t know what they’re thinking, but I hope that they’re at least considering the levels of evil involved in this. Keeping scent-matches apart by force is a legal offense. But when we’re dealing with a corrupt businesswoman, what does that really matter?
Matty takes my hand again, squeezing it tight until I look at his tearful eyes. He says nothing, but nods at me, like he understands. Like he’s with me. But I never doubted him.
When I look up at Vicki and Bets, they’re a mix of sadness and rage that I can feel from across the table.
They understand that if it’s happening to me, it could happen to them. My simple words tell them that they’re doomed if they stay here, just like me.
But what choice do we have?
When my eyes crack open, a bit of daylight has crept into my bedroom through the windows, but I don’t feel like I’ve slept at all.
I roll over to check my alarm clock and find it’s almost seven in the morning, meaning I’ve only been asleep for an hour.
Why did I wake up?
But then I hear something. It’s far away, but definitely inside the building. My ears twitch as I strain to hear, sitting up in bed and swinging my legs over the side. There’s nothing for several breaths, but then, a crash. Glass, I think. The sound clears any lingering haze from my mind.
I don’t know what’s going on, but every inkling in my body says that I have to get to the others.
I grab my thick sweater off the hook beside my door and wrap it around my body like a comforting hug, the crack my door open to scan the hallway.
Everything is quiet now. There’s no movement.
Did someone break a bottle downstairs at the bar?
The compulsion to join the others doesn’t go away, so I step out into the hall, closing my door behind me, and pad down the hall to the communal bedroom.
The moment I reach for the doorknob, something covers my nose and mouth, and I choke on chemicals, screaming muffled by the cloth and the huge hand holding it against my face. I kick wildly behind me, aiming for knees or balls or anything I can reach, but hit nothing.
Then, there’s only darkness.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Garen
Two days were too many.
We’d made the plan to infiltrate the club during their closing hours, which meant broad daylight. But we figured out after watching the feeds that a couple of hours after closing was the best time. The bouncers were off shift, and all the other workers would be in their bedrooms by then, likely sleeping, by the looks of it.
So, that’s what we waited for.
And now we’re here, all decked out in black tactical gear, weapons and tools to the teeth, and looking fine as hell, if I do say so.
We certainly do. Our Omega will be impressed.
The sun was just kissing the horizon when the first window shattered, Cade’s signal for Ilya and I to get moving.
We’d already climbed halfway up the decrepit fire escape ladder, and the rest of the way was short work. That’s where Ilya smashes the second window while I keep going ahead.
We can’t make it through the windows without extremely loud metal cutting tools, so distraction is the name of the game, while we all actually slip in through an air duct on the roof.
