“You are stubborn,” Camilla sasses.
“Watch it, Princess.”
“Or what?”
Deciding I don’t want to hear any more, I step away and head over to see if I can help Ryker with the cameras.
If I can just keep myself busy until she’s back on the jet, I’ll be able to stop watching the tracker like a hawk.
Or at least I hope I can.
CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX
CHLOE
NOW
It’s been a long fucking time since I’ve been into Miami, but I enjoy the sun on my skin while I can. By the time we get back to Maine, it will be freezing, and although I favor the cold weather, I’m not going to waste an opportunity to enjoy the Florida sun.
Enzo parked a few blocks away from the facility, deciding we were better going the rest of the way on foot to avoid suspicion.
Then he shoved a baseball cap and a pair of dark glasses on me as if it’s going to do anything to stop someone from recognizing me.
But this is their forte, and I’m just along for the ride, so I don’t bother arguing.
I just want to get this over with so we can get back to my guys.
Corbin walks beside me with his arm around my shoulders, his own hat pulled low as he guides me through the streets, while Enzo walks behind us, keeping his distance to analyze any potential threats.
Despite the ongoing anxiety in my belly, I feel safe with these men, and I truly believe they’re going to do everything they can to keep me safe.
The problem is what’s outside of their control.
That’s what worries me.
We round the corner to a street that seems vaguely familiar, but nothing jumps out to me as a landmark I recognize.
Maybe we just drove past this place when I was young.
“Lean into Corbin and laugh.” Enzo’s voice comes through the earpiece, and I do as I’m told without hesitation.
He buries his face in my hair, and I don’t miss the tension rolling through him. Ryker mentioned he doesn’t like to be touched, and I’ve done my best to respect those boundaries. As soon as we get the all clear, I’ll put some distance between us again.
“There’s a car down the street, blacked-out SUV with no plates.”
“Are they onto us?” Corbin asks, his cheek still resting on top of my head.
“I don’t think so. When we get inside, they’ll only let you back into the vault. Grab whatever is in the box, shove it in your backpack and get the fuck out of there. Okay?”
“Got it,” I reply, even though we’ve been over the plan five times since we left the airfield.
The door to the nondescript building comes into view, and Corbin guides me inside, leaving Enzo leaning against the wall a few yards away with a lit cigarette between his fingers.
I step forward with a fake smile plastered across my lips, forcing every bit of composure to the surface. “Hi there, I have a lockbox that my father left for me. I’d love to access it and close the account if possible.”
The woman behind the desk sweeps her eyes over my all-black outfit but doesn’t comment. “Do you have the key?”
“I do. I also have my ID and the will here if you need to see it.” I pull the paperwork out of the small crossbody bag with trembling fingers. “I only recently found out that my father passed despite it being so long ago.” I force my voice to wobble in the hope it will explain away my nerves.
