“It’s more the headache than anything,” I reply.

“That’s to be expected after everything you’ve been through. Sometimes the wound itself doesn’t start hurting until you move around. Let me chat to the doctor and get you some more pain meds to get ahead of it before it can get too bad. Does that sound okay?”

I nod. “Thank you.”

“It’s my pleasure. I’m sure one of these three will call if you need anything in the meantime.” She gives me a wink as she heads back out the way she came.

We haven’t spent any time in the real world since I started entertaining the idea of being with more than one man, and it hasn’t once occurred to me that people might not accept our relationship, but so far so good, I guess.

Ronan pulls his chair back to the edge of the bed, careful not to allow the feet to drag across the ground before taking my hand again.

“Camilla is here,” he tells me.

“She is?”

He nods. “The guys took her to a hotel nearby to get some sleep, but she’ll be here in the morning as soon as visiting hours start up.”

I glance at the drawn curtains across the room and frown. “How long have I been out for?”

“You came out of surgery about twenty hours ago,” Kingston tells me.

“And you’ve been here the whole time?”

He huffs out a humorless laugh. “Mama, I can’t see us letting you out of our sight for more than a minute anytime soon. I’d get used to the three of us hovering if I were you.”

I guess that doesn’t sound so bad.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

KINGSTON

NOW

Chloe’s soft snores fill the quiet hospital room. The nurse gave her some pain medication that almost immediately knocked her out, but none of us have moved.

I don’t know how I’m ever going to let her out of my sight after almost losing her, and by the way Ronan and Ryker watch every time her chest rises and falls, I don’t think I’m the only one.

We need to make a plan for how to deal with both threats currently hanging over us, but Ronan was right. Damon should be a part of whatever we’re planning, and he’s too stubborn to be here.

It’s not that I don’t understand why he’s feeling the way he is, because I do.

None of us will ever truly be worthy of her. Not when we’ve spent our lives sinning.

Chloe deserves a good man, a man that has never killed someone with their bare hands. But instead, she has four men that would sooner burn down the entire world than allow her to be hurt again.

But lucky for us, she doesn’t want a good man.

She wants us, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure she has what she wants, including the man currently torturing himself for something he couldn’t have controlled even if he wanted to.

Perhaps it’s a natural consequence of being raised as a mafia heir, or maybe it’s the guilt that he keeps failing the woman he never thought he’d have.

Regardless, it needs to stop.

“I’m going down to talk to Damon,” I announce, pushing myself to my feet.

Ryker raises a brow at me but only nods in response, while Ronan looks surprised.

“Call me if anything changes or the doctor comes around to see her.”
