“No, he took everything from you. If there’s anyone that deserved to kill him, it was you.”

Her bottom lip wobbles, her body trembling as her adrenaline crashes. “I want to go home.”

“Me too, baby. Me too.” I sigh. “But there’s a couple more stops we have to make before we can head back to Maine.”

CHAPTER SIXTY-THREE

CHLOE

NOW

Kingston wraps his arms around me from behind as we wait for the cleanup crew to finish with the bodies.

Even though I grew up in a crime family, this is the first time I’ve ever been present for this kind of thing, and it’s as disturbing as it is fascinating. Not sure what that says about me.

“You doing okay, Mama?”

I nod, leaning my head back against his chest. “I’m ready to get back to Maine.”

“You like the house?”

“I love it. It feels…” I hesitate for a moment. “It feels like home.”

“Then that’s what it will be.” He presses a kiss to the top of my head.

“We should talk about it, though. Have a family meeting or whatever we’re calling it.”

“What you want is always the main priority, Chloe. But I’m pretty sure we’re all on the same page. I caught Ryker scouting out which window to install a patio and where we need fences for the dogs we’re apparently getting a few days ago.”

I smile because I can picture it. Ryker heard me say one time that I want pets after going my whole life without having one, and he took that as his own personal mission to make it happen.

How the hell did I get so lucky?

The man himself appears with Ronan by his side. They’re chatting as if we didn’t just take out the people that wanted us dead, including Ronan’s father.

Sadly, none of my guys were responsible for taking Mikayla out. Instead, she seems to have been caught in some crossfire while we were dealing with Salvatore.

I was worried we might face some blowback from her employers, but King assures me that we’ll be okay. As far as they know, this was a family dispute gone wrong, and they’ll have no idea we know about the trafficking ring, at least not until we start dismantling it.

The guys catch sight of us and don’t hesitate to make their way toward us, each dropping a kiss to my lips before standing beside us and watching the crew dump a body in the back of a van.

“Where’s Damon?” I ask.

“Camilla’s grilling him about his intentions with you.” Ryker smirks.

A surprised giggle bursts from my chest. I would kill to be a fly on the wall for that conversation. “Has she done that with the rest of you?”

“Yep.” Ronan chuckles. “She’s a violent little thing, I’ll give her that. The colorful threats were impressive.”

“I thought the same thing,” Ryker says. “I think she could give us some tips and tricks for the most painful way to torture a man.”

Kingston’s laugh vibrates through me. “You’re lucky to have her, Mama.”

“I’m lucky to have all of you,” I whisper, tears gathering at the corners of my eyes at how true the words are.

His arms tighten around me. “We’re far luckier to have you.”

Damon appears, his eyes a little shell-shocked as he joins us. “She’s fucking crazy.”
