Much to my own dismay, I have to give Damon credit for distracting them while we set up.
He’s an asshole, but I guess he’s okay sometimes.
I catch sight of Kingston and Ronan on the second level providing cover as we fan out, trapping our targets in the center of the space.
If there’s one thing the boss does better than almost anyone else, it’s set a trap.
Damon ducks behind the pallet where he stashed his gear earlier, and I position myself in front of it, making sure no one can drop in while he’s vulnerable.
Chloe would be pissed if I let him get shot, especially seeing as the last bullet wound he had was from me.
He deserved it, though, and I stand by that.
Once he’s geared up, he rounds the stack of pallets and smirks at me. “Careful, bodyguard, I’m going to start thinking you like me if you keep this up.”
“I fucking hate you,” I growl and take off toward where Remy is engaged in hand-to-hand combat with one of Vega’s guys.
Seems I have some frustrations to work out, and these assholes look like the perfect punching bags.
CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO
RONAN
NOW
Ikeep an eye on my father as I pick off anyone that so much as thinks about raising a gun toward one of our guys.
Camilla and Kovu look like they’re having the time of their lives in the back corner where three fully grown men are getting their asses beat, while the rest of their group are fanned out around the warehouse.
But dear old Dad is skirting the action as only he can.
He used to scream at us about being mission ready, but I can’t remember the last time he was part of one, especially in any meaningful way.
That was mine and Damon’s job while he stayed safe and sound at the compound.
God, he’s an asshole.
“Salvatore’s on the move,” I say to Kingston beside me.
“Looks like he’s heading for the back entrance,” he replies, glancing around the huge space with a scowl.
We have a lot of men, more than I think I’ve ever had on my side in an operation like this, but it doesn’t feel like enough to keep anyone from escaping.
“Head down and follow him. Don’t let him get away,” he orders, and I don’t hesitate.
I take the metal steps two at a time as adrenaline rushes through every nerve in my body.
This ends here.
Salvatore slips through the door, not bothering to check if anyone is following him. I guess he’s out of practice from all those missions he missed.
“You good?” Ryker asks as I pass him.
“Dad’s making a run for it.”
“Call out if you need backup.”
I give him a quick nod and slip out the same way my father did.
