A laugh slips out of me, and whatever thread I’d almost caught disappears with it.

THANK YOU

Finally someone acknowledges how much personal growth has cost me

I shake my head, smiling at the screen. But my attention returns to the message above it.

Once you know, you have to decide whether you’re going to do something about it.

For all the questions Primavera has asked me, all the times she’s wanted me to tell her what something means or what she should do next, she isn’t asking now.

She’s telling me.

And she’s absolutely right.

I know what I want.

Maybe courage is what comes after.

CHAPTER 41

MERRYWEATHER

“You are looking at the new Associate Manager of Sales Planning for Briarwood Confections,” I say as I close my laptop after signing a million different documents that would effectively transfer me out of Hell’s grip and onto Elizabeth’s team. Finally.

There’s a beat of silence. Then Dani screams, and it’s one hundred percent unwarranted because she already knew about the conversations I’ve been having with Phillip for the past two weeks.

And also, it’s not an excited little squeal that could be reasonably expected when your friend announces a promotion. She screams loudly enough that Aurora launches herself off the back of the couch and disappears down the hallway, and Veronica nearly drops the wine bottle she’s holding.

“Jesus Christ,” I say.

“You got it!”

Dani is already crossing the living room toward me at the kitchen island, and I barely have time to put down my glass before she throws both arms around my neck.

“I knew you were going to get it.”

“Yeah, no shit, Sherlock. You just watched me sign the paperwork.”

“This is all because we manifested it.”
