"Sunny." Her smile widens. “I’m Trixie.”
“It was nice to meet you. Look, if you speak to my husband, don’t tell him you saw me.”
Her smile grows bigger. “Of course, it’ll be our secret.”
I clasp her hands. “You’re a dream, thank you.”
When I start to walk away, she calls out, "He's a lucky man, Sunny."
I snort. "Tell him that."
Keeping my head down, I make my way back across the floor, weaving between tables and slot machines, trying not to draw attention to myself.
When I reach the elevator, I press the button, but nothing happens.
I press it again, this time harder.
But still nothing. There is no movement, noise, or any indication at all that it’s working.
I notice the small panel below the button. It’s a keycard reader.
Damn it.
You clearly need a key to open it.
I press the button six more times in rapid succession, like a woman who has never encountered a keycard system before. Why does this have to be so hard?
"You absolute piece of shit." I smack the panel with my palm. “Damn you.”
Someone clears their throat behind me, and every muscle in my body freezes.
Because I know exactly who is standing behind me.
I turn around slowly, and there he is.
My husband.
He’s standing three feet away with his hands in his pockets, those dimples on either side of his amused lips.
He raises an eyebrow. "What exactly do you think you're doing, little rose?"

DANTE
My wife broke out of the penthouse to spy on me and then couldn't break back in.
Damn, why does that make me smile when it should make me furious?
We stand side by side in the elevator as it climbs toward the penthouse, but she says nothing. Her arms are crossed, her eyes are downcast, and her ears are an adorable shade of pink.
She bites her lip in that distracting way, and I watch it silently for the first ten floors.
"So," I say.
"Don't."
"Don't what?"
