She gives my chest a tiny slap, then her expression becomes a wave ready to take me to the highest crest, before both of us crash. We pick up a pace, matching thrusts with clenches, breaths with pinches and scratches. I fist her hair and tug her head back, while she lifts and slides back on my cock, and I feel her convulsing again.

I let her ride out her orgasm, then flip our bodies so that I’m on top of her. She lifts her knees to give me more space, and now I can’t stop as I start pummelling into her, moves becoming erratic. I release inside of her with a groan, shaking like a leaf, until I’m all slack, collapsing on top of her. Corrie wraps her arms around my back, before her hand slides up my spine at the bottom of my neck, and the other fans on my lower back.

‘That was…’

‘That was,’ she agrees.

We let the intention to speak more fade, swallowed by the darkness, just breaths catching up and bodies bound together. I shift to let her breathe, and for a while, we stay like that, recollecting ourselves, until I know it’s time for words again, those we’ve both been skirting around all this time.

‘I don’t want to leave…’

She nods against my chest. ‘But you have to.’

‘It will only be temporary. I need to take care of some logistics back in the US…’

‘I bet Aaron will grab you right when you come out of that plane.’ It’s meant to sound funny, but it ends up seeming more like a threat.

‘Probably.’

‘I bet you will hardly have time to breathe.’ Corrie’s soft voice is like a feather trying to stay grounded, while fear threatens to push it up and send it away.

I tighten my hold, my heart aching. ‘Nothing will change, Corrie. No, I take it back: if there will be a change, it’ll be more texts and calls. Until I’m back.’

Her chuckle is a breath. ‘There aren’t enough hours in the day for more texts. And I understand that you have a life out there and your fans who are waiting for you and…’

‘My home is here. With you and the kids. I love you guys and love what I do, so I’ll find a way to bring the two together.’

‘Luuk, it all happened too fast. I realise it’s the enthusiasm of the first days, but…’

I turn to face her, my gaze boring into her. ‘This has been a very long time in the making. This isn’t enthusiasm or an interval. This is where I want to be, Aaron be damned.’

She kisses my chest, before becoming more comfortable against it, and I’m thrilled to be her very own personal cushion. ‘I’d like to hear you say it to his face.’

‘I will, if I have to.’

I’m very tempted to start applying my theory, shortly after I arrive in Nashville, more alert than jet-lagged, the lack of Corrie, the sleepless night before and the tension that kept me awake during the flight catching up with me. I become a piece of luggage, transported to my apartment, my schedule for the coming days rapidly recited to me by Aaron’s twenty-something assistant, who seems terrified of her boss, and I wonder how long she’ll last. When she catches her breath and I pretend to jot things on my phone, I text Corrie.

FYI, there are worse hovering helicopters...

Luuk

But you’re my favourite.

She’s most probably up still, unless she’s collapsed to catch up with her sleep, but I see the dancing dots.

Corrie

Great to hear that my skills are appreciated.

Luuk

Oh, they are… 😉

Luuk

Every single one of them.
