“Hmmmm.” I mewled, wanting him to go faster and slower at the same time. “Do you still want to talk?”
Vaughan bit my lip, and murmured, “sassy” against my mouth. He sat up, and I immediately felt bereft. He didn’t give me much time to wonder what he was doing because one minute I was on my back and the next he had me turning over onto my stomach. He lifted my hips and gave no warning before thrusting into me.
“Holy…” I clutched the sheets. “That’s new.”
“Keep talking,” warned Vaughan. “And I’ll draw this out, Shortcake.”
Dammit, there was that term of endearment again. Where had I heard it before?
Vaughan held on to my hips and moved my body to meet his with every thrust. He spread my legs further apart and shifted me so that the front of my thighs were resting on the front of his. It stole my breath, the way he got my body to take more and more until it was almost painful.
I twisted my head, and watched him from over my shoulder, his face drawn in concentration and his gaze locked on my ass. I wanted to ask him to slow down because it wasn’t the most comfortable feeling but he reached around my waist and slipped his hand between my legs. He rubbed my clit, and my body jerked. I dropped my head, fighting not to come too quickly. If I did, it was going to wreck me completely.
“Ohhhh….” I pinched my lips closed and felt my eyes starting to water. The sensations were too much, and I grabbed Vaughan’s wrist to slow him down. “Too much,” I whimpered. “Please, I can’t.”
“Breathe…Trust me.” His hot breath hit me between my shoulder blades, and I tried to shut my mind off so that all I could focus on was his body taking and mine giving. He slowed his pace but increased the pressure on my clit, and my head fell to the pillow to stifle the scream bubbling up my throat. My body shook violently, my orgasm robbing my lungs of air. Vaughan followed, his fingers digging into my hips. He moved, in short, even bursts, despite making us both come harder than ever. He flipped me over and hovered above me on shaky arms.
“I think I could get used to waking up like that,” he panted, his hair sticking to his sweaty forehead. I brushed the ends of his hair with my fingertips and avoided his gaze as I rolled out from under him. That was more than just sex, and I didn’t know how to deal with that. I may not have wanted to leave, but I didn’t expect to be overcome by feelings so big they were barely contained in my chest. Vaughan climbed off the bed and in all his naked glory wrapped an arm around my waist from behind.
“I can practically hear the wheels turning in your head, but I’ll be here when you’re ready to talk to me.” He kissed my shoulder. “Shower with me.”
I turned my head, and looked up at Vaughan, giving him the only answer I had when it came to him. “Okay.”
VAUGHAN MADE SOME coffee for us, and we ate breakfast with Aiden, Staci, and Daniel. Daniel was getting his cast taken off later, and it was obvious he was excited. He kept asking Vaughan if it was time to leave yet and rather than become impatient with Daniel’s repetitive questioning, Vaughan smiled at his little brother and told him, “not yet little man.”
Aiden was whispering sweet nothings in Staci’s ear who was folded into his lap. She giggled and blushed, and when Aiden looked over at me, I said, “Get a room.” I was teasing of course. I liked Staci, even after assuming that she was with Vaughan a few weeks back.
“Trust me,” smirked Aiden, “A room isn’t enough to keep you from hearing us.”
The knowing glint in his eye had my cheeks reddening, and I looked to Vaughan for help. They heard us have sex and while it was perfectly okay for a guy to brag about how loud he is, or how loud he can make a woman scream, I was not one to have my sex life on display.
Staci slapped Aiden’s bare chest. “Leave them alone, Aiden. Or there will be nothing but silence from our bedroom later.”
Vaughan snickered, and I hid my grin by taking another sip of my coffee.
“That’s not fair,” whined Aiden.
Staci raised her brows. “Leave your sister alone, and stop talking like that. We have a kid at the table.”
“If you mean Aiden,” snickered Vaughan. He took a seat beside me, and sat back with ease, bringing his left hand to rest on my thigh. I was in one of his shirts that fortunately covered everything while we ate. Aiden and Vaughan were talking about ice-hockey and the upcoming season while Daniel filled me in on everything he’d been doing with Staci and Aiden over the Summer. Looking around made it easy for me to envision this as my life. It was a family, and it was a home and when I looked at Vaughan it was impossible to miss the sense of belonging I felt at his side.
And yet I felt as though I was only giving him parts of myself and until I got some of the answers I wanted, I wouldn’t be able to give him more.
I twined our fingers together and kissed his bicep before resuming a conversation with Daniel and Staci. I helped her clean up afterward and walked back into Vaughan’s bedroom to change. He prepared for me to spend the night because Maddy packed an overnight bag and gave it to Vaughan at my Dad’s barbecue the day before. I was slipping into the peach and white maxi dress Maddy put in my bag when Vaughan came into his bedroom. He looked - I searched for an appropriate word - fuckable in nothing but gray sweats, his hair sticking up in all directions. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of his body or the way his muscles rippled with every measured step he took towards me. He moved quite gracefully for someone his size.
“Give me ten minutes, and I’ll be ready to go.” He tilted my head up, his hands around my neck and peppered kisses on my lips until they were swollen.
“You can take me with you to the hospital.” Vaughan’s brows furrowed, and I explained, “I want to speak to Connor.”
I didn’t need to say more because Vaughan got it. He understood that I was thrown by my nightmare.
He nodded, kissed me one more time and then got dressed. Daniel spoke animatedly on the drive to the hospital and ensured that both me and Vaughan knew how excited he was to go back to school and see his friends. He also made sure to tell us that Staci and Aiden drove him crazy with their “kissy faces.”
I laughed at that because it was so innocent.
“You’ll feel different about kissy faces in a few years,” I told him. “You’re going to be a real heartbreaker.”
He shrugged. “Why would I want to kiss girls or break their hearts? Vaughan never did that.”
