"A few weeks."
His eyes come to me.
I’ve had men look at me like that before. Usually, I’ve given them a reason in the last thirty seconds.
This one’s been waiting six years.
"You’ve been fucking my sister?"
"Don’t talk about her like that."
"Don’t talk to him like I’m not standing here," Baylor says, stepping between our lines of sight. "I’m the one you should be asking."
"You were in his apartment to bake."
"I was."
"And all that shit about hardly seeing him?"
"I should’ve told you. I know Beau. I know you hate him but–"
"But you kissing and making up with the one person I hate most."
"I’m my own person Beau. I can’t avoid anyone you don’t like. And you’re playing now."
He looks at her for a moment.
"Do Mom and Dad know?"
"Mom knows."
That lands.
His jaw tightens, and Baylor reaches toward him.
"Please. We can talk after the game."
He steps back before she touches him.
"I need to get ready."
"Beau."
He looks past her at me.
"Stay away from her. I’ll see you on the ice."
Then he turns and heads down the corridor.
Baylor starts after him, but the door swings closed before she reaches it.
She stops with her hand still out.
I go to her.
"Bay."
"I should’ve told him."
