A grin spread across her face. “Gladly.”

“Good.” I settled back, leaving her to figure it out.

She reopened her laptop while I settled back in my seat.

Forty percent of the restaurant.

One hundred percent my wife.

She only knew about the first one.

For now.

By the time we landed in Westhaven, the paperwork was the last thing on Jru’s mind.

The truck was waiting outside the airport, and for the first part of the ride, she stayed buried in her phone while I handled a few messages of my own. It wasn’t until we got deeper into the city that she finally looked up.

Her eyes followed the buildings outside for a few seconds before her brows slowly pulled together.

I knew exactly when she realized we weren’t headed toward her apartment.

“Where are we going?” she asked, turning away from the window to look at me.

“Home.” I slipped my phone lower in my hand, already waiting for the next question.

She turned toward me, phone still loose in her hand. “My apartment is the other way.”

“What apartment?” I asked, keeping my expression straight.

Her head snapped toward me.

“Excuse me?” She stared at me like she needed to make sure she'd heard correctly.

I slipped my phone into my pocket. “Ashlynn moved the fuck out and moved in with Malachi. He got rid of the apartment.”

Jru stared at me for all of two seconds.

“Oh, hell no.” She sat forward, her eyes widening as the information finally registered.

She snatched her phone up and immediately called Ashlynn.

I leaned back against the seat and let her. Shit, call whoever you wanted. Wasn’t changing where we were headed.

Ashlynn answered on the second ring.

“Bitch,” Jru started before she could even say hello, “please tell me Ezra is lying. Did you move out?” She pressed the phone tighter against her ear, waiting for an answer.

Whatever Ashlynn said had Jru sitting up straighter.

“You WHAT?” Her voice rose so sharply I turned toward the window to hide my smile.

“And Malachi got rid of the apartment?” Jru asked, louder this time. She listened for another second before throwing her free hand in the air. “So when the fuck was somebody gonna tell me I was homeless?”

I looked over. “You ain’t homeless.”

She covered the phone and glared at me. “Stay the fuck out my conversation.”

I laughed and looked away.
