I looked back toward the road as a slow smile pulled at my mouth.

Yeah.

I was about to fire her ass.

Whether she knew it or not.

And for the first time since those crazy thoughts started running through my head, I wasn't planning on ignoring them.

I was about to start putting some of that shit into motion.

Chapter 12

I couldn’t believe I married this girl.

Shit, I was a married man.

And apparently that meant standing in her apartment with a box pressed against my hip while she argued with me about shoes she hadn’t worn since I met her.

“Baby, you need all this?” I asked, glancing down at the shoes in my hand.

Ashlynn barely looked over her shoulder, too busy digging through the closet to give me her full attention. “Yes.”

“You ain’t even look.”

“Whatever you holding, put it in the box,” she instructed, already reaching for another purse.

I looked down at the shoes, then back at her. My house had plenty of room, but at this rate I was going to need to add a wing just for her shit.

“You moving in or opening a store?” I asked, watching her pull another bag from the shelf.

She shot me a look over her shoulder. “Keep talking. I’ll put your stuff out to make room.”

I laughed and dropped the shoes into the box. I liked hearing her talk about my house like she already belonged there. She did. Still had me catching myself smiling when I was supposed to be helping.

My phone buzzed, and I checked it before setting the box down.

Ezra was probably still pissed about Jru, but shit, he’d get over it. She could do the job. Whatever else he wanted from her, he needed to figure that out. We had bigger shit to handle with the organization anyway.

Eighty thousand dollars was missing, and Darnell’s name had come up behind it. A nigga from our past who’d wanted his own shit, so we’d gone our separate ways. Now I was hearing he had somebody in with us helping him take our money. We’d walked away from each other, and this motherfucker was trying to cross us.

I’d told E about the money, but not everything I was hearing. He was in Miami looking at clubs. I was keeping an eye on this until I had more to give him than somebody running their mouth.

“Can you take these?” Ashlynn asked, pushing two bags toward me without waiting for an answer.

I grabbed the handles, and the weight damn near pulled one out my hand. “The fuck is in here?”

“My products,” she answered casually, like she hadn’t just handed me enough shit to stock a beauty supply store.

“You got enough shit to wash everybody in Westhaven.”

She rolled her eyes, but I caught the smile she tried to hide. Before she could answer, E’s name lit up my phone. I set the bags by the bedroom door and answered, already grinning.

“You still pretending you took that girl down there just to look at clubs?” I asked, leaning against the doorframe.

“Man, fuck you,” he answered, sounding irritated before we even got started.

I chuckled, shifting my weight against the frame. “That bad, huh?”
