I turned my attention back to the road before I did something stupid.

We still had three more days.

Three more days of meetings, properties, meals, and riding around Miami together.

Three more days of that perfume.

That mouth.

And now I knew something I hadn't known before bringing her here.

Jru wasn't only somebody I wanted to fuck.

I liked having her around.

That was worse.

Much fucking worse.

For years, I'd kept every part of my life in its place. Business was business. Sex was sex. The streets were the streets. I didn't mix shit because mixing shit created problems.

The phone call with Malachi that morning was proof enough of why those lines existed. I could be looking at multimillion-dollar properties in Miami while somebody back home was stealing money from an organization that had existed long before Vice ever opened its doors.

My life already had enough complications.

I didn't need another one.

Yet Jru had been inside it for three weeks and was already crossing lines without even knowing those lines existed.

My employee.

A woman I wanted.

A woman whose opinion I respected.

A woman I was thinking entirely too fucking much about.

I glanced toward her.

She'd turned toward the window, watching Miami pass by as the city blurred beyond the glass.

Somewhere between the first property and the third, one of those crazy thoughts I'd been having finally started making sense.

I didn't want her working for me.

Not because she wasn't good at it.

That was the fucked-up part.

She was damn good.

Today had proven Malachi right about hiring her, and somehow my conclusion was still the exact opposite of what it should've been.

I wanted her out of Vice.

Out from under me as an employee.

Because every hour I spent around her made my original problem worse, and I was getting tired of pretending wanting her was some shit that would disappear if I ignored it long enough.
