“No, why?”

“It’s just something about him. He always pops up at weird times.”

“Are you trying to change the subject?”

“What is it that you need me to do, Summer? I want you to be my wife. I’m not going anywhere and neither are you. As long as this little girl is connected between us, there’s always us,” he rubbed my stomach.

Law pulled me in closer to him. With his forehead to mine, he caressed the side of my face. He wasn’t afraid to show me how much he loved me but I still doubted it. My heart and head were in two different places.

“I love you, Summer. I’ll do anything to prove to you that I’m about my family.”

“I love you too.” He brushed my hair out of my face before kissing my lips.

35. LAW

I had a headache for three damn days. Summer thought it was coming from me sleeping on the sofa at the hospital, so she sent me home to get some rest in bed. I didn’t want to leave her but I wasn’t feeling well and if I was coming down with something, I didn’t want to get her sick.

A hot shower and blunt and I was sprawled out across my king-size bed watching a movie. A scent of a woman went across my nose. It wasn’t Summer’s. It smelled like some shit Pinkie would wear. I found myself unblocking her number and hitting her up. A simple hello turned into a phone call.

“You decided to unblock me?” She asked.

“Yea, I don’t know why I did it though. I must be bored.”

“You don’t have to be bored, baby. You know I’ll entertain you; all you’ve got to do is say the word.”

What the fuck was I doing? I was just begging Summer to trust me, and here I am trying to decide if I want to fuck with Pinkie or not.

“You taking too long to decide. You scared? Who going to find out? She at the hospital and can’t leave. Just slide through and I’ll send you back happy and you’ll be able to sleep.”

“I’ll be there in an hour.”

“Okay, the door will be open.” She hung up.

I got out of bed, put some clothes on, drove my ass all the way to her house and didn’t get out. Pinky had a small light on. My head was pounding worse than it was when I left the house. I put my car in reverse and pulled off.

I walked back into the hospital room to see Summer asleep. Without waking her up, I grabbed my cover and got the sofa together for the night. She still hadn’t moved by the time I laid down. Placing my phone on silent, I drifted off to sleep.

“When did you get back?” Summer asked as she stood over me.

“I came back last night. Why are you up so early.”

“Your phone keeps vibrating, and when I woke up to go to the bathroom, it wouldn’t stop. I looked for it but couldn’t find it.”

I had that bitch in my pocket because I knew Summer went to the bathroom all night long. Knowing that Pinkie was going to be blowing me up, I didn’t want to chance Summer seeing it and I hadn’t done shit. It was the best decision that I made.

When Summer walked off, I pulled my phone out of my pocket. Seventeen text messages came from Pinkie. The only thing I felt bad about was not telling her to lock her door. When I pulled up at her crib, my conscience was beating my ass.

“Who was that?”

“What you mean?”

“Calling you all night?”

“LJ, called a few times to ask about some shit.”

“And the other calls?”

“Summer don’t start.”
