“No.”
“Then we’ve done nothing wrong, and there’s no way in hell that I’m going to allow anyone, your mother or not, to tell you different. Now give me your phone. I don’t need her getting you any more upset.”
“No, I’ll call, please. You don’t understand. She can be pretty difficult.” I concede and let her make the call. I have a feeling her mother and I will have a few battles ahead of us, but that’s too bad for the monster-in-law, considering I never lose.
While Laney is on the phone with her mother, I make a few more calls. First off, I call Troy to let him know what’s going on. He tells me he'll let Stella know so Laney doesn't have to bother with that. I call downstairs to have a sweat suit, along with other items brought up from one of the stores in the lobby. I hope she doesn’t mind Prada because that’s what she’s getting. I want her to be comfortable on the flight home. I’m sure we have a long day ahead of us. The concierge is up in record time, handing me a few bags when Laney comes up behind me.
“They’re at New York Presbyterian.”
“Okay, here, get dressed. Troy's letting Stella know what happened. He'll make arrangements for both of them to get back home." I hand over the bag. "There should be a sweat suit, shirt, shoes, hairbrush, and toothbrush. They were supposed to include a bra and panties as well. I hope everything fits.”
“Thank you, Nathan. I didn’t even think about my clothes or luggage."
“Anything for you, Laney." I give her a kiss on the cheek, "Now hurry up, so we can get out of here.”
“Aren’t you going to clean up or anything?”
“Troy’s packing up my things. He’ll take everything of mine back to New York with him. I have a change of clothes and everything else that I may need on the plane.”
“Wait, the plane?”
“Yes, the plane, my plane, our plane, it’s fueled and waiting for us at the airport, so let’s get a move on, love.”
