“Why would you do that?” he demands.

“I saw her with Reid and assumed they were…together. Thought maybe she’d cheated on him with me.”

The bastard actually laughs. “You were jealous? That’s fucking awesome.”

“I wasn’t jealous!” I snap. “Just didn’t want there to be drama on the team.”

“Uh huh. And how did she react to you asking her if she cheated on her brother?” He’s trying to keep a straight face, but I see the grin fighting to break through.

“She was…annoyed.”

“And now you’re keeping your distance.”

“Well, yeah. What else should I do?”

“Apologize?”

“I did. I think.”

Didn’t I?

Maybe not.

Shit.

“You don’t remember if you apologized?”

“Leave it alone,” I mutter. “After today, I probably won’t see her again.”

“Of course, you will. She’s working here for the next few months. I’m sure she’s going to be at games and—”

“What do you mean, working here? Doesn’t she work in New York?”

He frowns. “Didn’t you talk at all? She’s the costume designer or whatever for Dusty Peaks. She’ll probably be here until Christmas.”

Christmas?!

It’s only August.

Fuck.

Maybe I do need to apologize, just to smooth things over so it’s not weird. I didn’t anticipate having to see her regularly.

I don’t know why the idea bugs me.

Because she’s beautiful?

I look over to where she’s laughing and something in my chest tightens.

That same weird, jealous feeling I had when I saw Reid’s arm around her shoulders.

Her brother.

I have to remember that.

Brother or not, I have no reason to be jealous. She’s not my girlfriend.

It was a one-night stand, nothing more, nothing less.
