“Yeah.”
“I sent over that revised material order for Freetown. The stone for the entrances. I need your approval before we release it.”
Justice looked at the phone, then opened something on the screen.
Roman sounded so comfortable. He had no idea I was sitting beside the man he was talking to. No idea I had spoken to Keenan or that my son had told me what happened to his face.
I wanted to pick up the phone and ask him how he could hit our child. I wanted to hear what excuse he would give me.
Justice glanced at me before looking down again.
“This the final number?” he asked.
“Yeah. That includes delivery. I just need you to sign off so we can move.”
“Aight. Send the confirmation to my office.”
“Will do.”
I watched the muscle in Justice’s jaw move. His voice hadn’t changed once.
“While I got you,” he said, “when you getting back?”
“I fly in tomorrow.”
“Aight, bet.”
“I’ll keep you posted on the order,” he replied.
“Do that.”
He ended the call and set the phone beside him.
I sat still while he pulled the sheet back and got out of bed.
Hearing Roman had taken me right back to that bus. Keenan looking around to make sure nobody saw us. The bruise beneath his eye. Him asking if I could take him with me.
“I need my son safe, Justice.”
He paused with his clothes in his hand.
“He will be.”
I watched him get dressed. I wished he didn’t have to leave because I wasn’t ready to be alone. He came back to the bed and leaned down to kiss me.
“I got work to do.”
I held his face for a moment before letting go.
“Okay.”
He kissed me once more, picked up his phone, and walked out.

Before I headed to Pittsburgh, there were a few loose strings that I had to tie. Thankfully, Roman was getting back before the weekend. I refused to let that nigga continue to walk around after what he did to her. After what he did to her baby.
