My fingers trace the rim of my glass.
Three days.
Three whole fucking days he’s been gone.
He won’t even answer my damn text messages, and every call goes straight to voicemail.
What if he’s with him right now?
What if he is kissing the Korean guy just as passionately as he kissed me?
Alistair swore Knox was out on a raid, but something feels off. I don’t care what he said; when he swore, I know I saw a tiny flicker of nerves across his freckled face.
So yeah… he’s hiding something.
But hiding what?
That Knox is dating someone? That he regrets what happened between us and is now drawing a line?
Arg!
Fuck!
…I’m just the client, aren’t I?
Maybe Alistair is coddling me to protect their paycheck while Knox spends all day and night fucking that gorgeous guy.
Oh, my God, Cillian…
What the hell have you become?
I’ve become so lost in Knox, so wrecked by what he left behind… that I’m even ignoring the piece of paper that I shoved in my pocket ten minutes ago.
Another damn letter.
This one is even more unhinged, but just as stupid as the rest.
Okay, let’s get rid of it before the Harknetts see it and lock me up in a tower.
My hair is long… but not long enough to climb down that shit.
I slide out of the booth, crumple the paper into a ball, and aim for the nearest trash bin that’s tucked beside the velvet ropes.
“What was that?”
I flinch as Leo appears beside me, catching the crumpled ball mid-air before it hits the trash.
“Nothing,” I say, reaching for it. “It’s just trash.”
“You are a terrible liar…” Leo steps back, unfolding the paper despite my glare. He reads it, and I can see the color drain from his face. “Cillian… what the fuck?”
“It’s just—”
“Don’t you dare act like this is normal!” Leo shakes the letter in his hand.
“Leo, I’m telling you—” I say, but he cuts me off and reads the letter out loud.
“‘How does it feel to have all the money in the world when you have no time left?’” He reads and starts crying. I hug him. “Please, Cil. I don’t want you to die.”
