Knox glares at Leo, letting him know this isn’t the time to ask that.

“No? Okay… never mind…” Leo mumbles, gluing his mouth to his latte.

“He is pretty hot,” I tell Leo, and somehow Knox feels angrier.

He looks at me. “Say goodbye. We are leaving.”

“No, we are not.”

“This place is not secure, and there are fifteen points in here where a sniper can take a shot at you.”

“That’s a lot of points,” I tease.

And I expect Knox to go all angry-sermon on me, but instead he bends over, picks me up, and throws me over his shoulder.

“Whoa! Knox! Put me down!” I wrestle him.

Or at least I try.

Knox nods toward my bestie, who is looking way too happy.

So much for being on my team… traitor.

“Pleasure to meet you, Leo.”

Leo smiles. “Same! And thank you for your service!”

And after a second nod, Knox carries me to a pickup truck.

I punch his back and wiggle, but it’s like a toddler fighting against a huge monster bear.

Still, I keep fighting.

“Let me down, you stupid man!”

“Shut up.”

“This is not how you treat your boss!”

Knox opens the pickup door, and the asshole throws me onto the seat and smiles. “As I said, you are not my boss.”

I try to exit, but he slams the door in my face.

As Knox walks around the front of the pickup, I reach for the handle and try to open the door, but the bastard must have put the child safety locks on.

Damn it!

I glare through the glass at Leo, who is now standing on the sidewalk, waving and laughing at my misery.

At least one of us is enjoying this…

The driver’s door swings open. Knox climbs in, the car sinking under his weight, and slams the door shut.

“Buckle up,” he orders, but I ignore him, crossing my arms and staring ahead.

Knox sighs and leans across the console.

His huge body instantly cuts off the light, trapping me against the passenger seat.
