But I can’t.
I have to find this fucking stalker and give my little Prince his freedom back.
I shut the door and turn to the twins, who are already taking up positions on either side of the entrance. “Nobody gets past you two. If anyone tries to force their way in, shoot them.”
“Got it,” they say in unison, hands already resting on their holsters.
With that, I turn and head down the hall toward the infirmary.
I know I should walk to avoid causing a panic.
I mean, nothing sets off a crowd faster than seeing someone from security running… but I need to move fast.
Partly to put distance between us before I break protocol and stay with Cil, and partly because the faster I get to the infirmary, the faster we can end this bastard.
Still, every step away from that room feels like tearing out a piece of my heart.
It’s a feeling I’m not used to, but one I can’t deny anymore.
Cillian means everything to me now.
So much so that once this whole nightmare is over, I’m going to ask him to please forgive my stubbornness, to forget everything I said, and date me.
…I just hope he says yes.
Finally, after the longest five minutes of my life, I reach the infirmary and see Logan and Tae already checking the corpse.
Tae leans toward the entertainer’s lifeless body, pointing to the red skin and foamy mouth.
“Same poison, only this time it was injected.”
“Why the change of MO?” Logan asks, and Tae shrugs.
“Either the killer got impatient, or the performer refused to eat the tuna because of his allergy… It could be a million things.”
I see that his shoes are covered in mud. Which is weird, since there are no ponds or muddy spots around here.
I look at Logan. “Where was he found?”
“At the tool shed,” Damián says as soon as he arrives. “One of the gardeners found him after his shift ended.”
“Okay.” Logan scratches his beard and sighs. “Alexios, do we have video confirmation of what happened?”
Then… silence.
“Alexios?” Logan calls, but there is no answer. “Fuck… Alexios!”
BZZT! BZZT!
Logan’s phone vibrates in his pocket.
He takes it out and sees the name Alexios on the screen.
Logan puts him on speaker.
“Boss! Half of the monitors are glitching, the comms are down, and so is one of the corner perimeters.”
“How is that possible? No one here can hack you.”
