My body tenses, waiting for Cillian’s usual reaction. Waiting to see him smack the fuck out of that hand and tell him to go away.

But Cillian stands there with his eyes on the ground.

What? No…

Why isn’t he pushing him away?!

A wave of nausea and pain hits me in the gut and crawls all the way to my chest.

My God…

Was Finnian right?

Is Cillian heartbroken because I can’t offer him a relationship? Is he now trying to find someone who can?

No.

We need to stop this.

I look around and see Damián close by, keeping an eye on Cil, but he is trying to protect him from a killer, not from his stupid ex, so of course there’s no reason for him to intervene.

I take another step, but stop.

Should I even intervene?

Sure, seeing Cillian let another man touch him makes me want to vomit… to scream and punch a fucking tree.

I hate it so much that I want to run over there, pull Cil away, and press him against me, keeping him there until this annoying void fills up… But then, what the hell do I offer him?

How can I offer nothing to a man who deserves the world?

You can’t, Knox…

Think of your family.

Think of what that man did to Mom.

How she died in my arms, sobbing, begging me to forgive her.

Stop it, Knox.

You can’t be with him.

I glance at Cillian. He looks stunning, even with that sadness in his eyes… and God, I wish I could fix it.

I stare at his lips, remembering how he tastes, how they curve when he smiles, and his hands, the way they move when he paints, and how they feel when they’re on my skin.

Fuck, Knox, you can’t!

I take a deep breath and am about to turn around when I see Aurelio pulling Cillian in for a kiss.

Cillian takes a step back and tenses, but the man grabs him by the nape of his neck and pulls.

Screw it.

I don’t even remember moving, but one second I’m turning to walk away, and the next, I am standing behind Cillian.

I slide my arms around him, one on his waist pulling him closer to me, and the other sliding over his face and covering his mouth before Aurelio’s lips touch it.
