And this is the second attempt on his life.

Fuck…

“Knox.” Cillian’s eyes finally meet mine, and I hate seeing so much confusion and pain in them. “What happened in Venezuela?”

“We extracted a corrupt FBI agent.”

“I don’t get it… what does that have to do with me?”

Leif turns around, unable to hide his grin at the fact that Cillian is still on my lap. “That FBI asshole is the one who delivered most of the letters to you.”

“Is he my stalker?”

“Nej,” Leif answers. “He was just paid to track you down and hand over the letters.”

“So we’re back to square one…” Cillian sighs, looking defeated.

“Not to square one,” I assure him. “We have a link now.”

“We do. And thanks to this giant hero over here, we can interrogate him,” Leif says, gesturing back at me. “He even got himself shot just to save that idiot.”

“Is that why your arm is bandaged? You got shot?!” Cillian asks, and I instinctively touch my arm.

“Yes, but it’s just a graze—”

“Third car down,” Logan’s voice cuts in over the radio. “Status?”

“Sixty miles away from the meeting point,” Björn responds. “Do we have any idea who’s behind this?”

There is a beat of silence, and I feel Cillian’s body tense in my lap.

Crap... this is not going to be good news.

Then Law’s voice comes through the radio. “They were Sons of Cerberus.”

Oh, fuck…

My chest tightens at the name. Those men are monsters, and now they’re hunting Cillian.

“Are you positive?” Leif asks, looking as restless as I feel.

“Yes,” Logan answers. “Alexios intercepted one of the shooters’ phones right after they made a call.”

Cillian leans close, his proximity already doing something to my body, and whispers, “Who are the Sons of Cerberus?”

“An underground group of contract killers,” I say, trying to sound calm when I’m anything but.

The Sons of Cerberus are one of the worst mercenary groups across all seven fucking continents.

“Are they good at what they do?” Cil asks, and I want to lie, but I can’t.

“Unfortunately, yes,” I admit.

Cillian frowns, confused. “But you guys hacked them…”

“Yes.”

“If they’re so good, why did they make a call knowing they would be hacked?”
