Mark Ember or reject her.

Those were my only two options.

I slammed the prison door open and descended the stairs, heading straight for the torture room.

“We’ve been torturing him for hours,” Silas said, standing beside Matt outside of the door. “He hasn’t given up anything.”

I snatched the chain from him and stepped into the silver room with the wolf from the Crimson Order. “Well, he’s about to.”

Just the sheer amount of silver in our torture room made my skin burn, yet I stormed over to him, grabbed him by the chain, and shoved him up against the wall.

“Why’d you take her?”

“Argh, fuck! I already told everyone that I don’t know.”

“Wrong fucking answer.” I slammed him harder against the silver wall until I could hear his back sizzling. “What do you want with her?”

“Fuck you,” he hissed between his teeth. “Bitch.”

A ferocious snarl left my mouth, and I continued to pin him on the wall. The scent of burning flesh drifted through my nose.

He wouldn’t last much longer; he couldn’t.

I had seen wolves who could be tortured, who could take it, who would never give up a detail.

And this asshole didn’t have that strength.

No, he would break. And soon.

“Who took her?”

“Alaric,” that fucker finally said. “Alaric took her!”

“Why?”

“Because Dr. Yoder thought she was important and she’s not.”

“Dr. Yoder? What the fuck does he have to do with any of this?”

“You’re asking the wrong person. I don’t know any more than that.”

I snapped his arm in half, so hard that his bone broke through his skin. “Bullshit.”

His cry echoed through the prison. “Fuck, I said I don’t know! I’m not that important to know. If I were, you wouldn’t have been able to catch me.”

“Then they won’t care if you die?” I asked. “They won’t even notice, huh?”

“Please,” he murmured, dropping to his knees. “I just met my mate. I’ll tell you anything. I’ll do anything. Just please, please don’t kill me.”

“You’ll do anything?” I repeated. “Give us any information?”

He nodded. “Yes, yes, I’ll do anything.”

I nodded and exited the room, handing one of the chains back to Silas. “Keep him in that room until tonight to see if he’ll give us any more information. Then transfer him to a different cell. He will be a useful bargaining chip.”

“Anything with the other prisoners?” Matt asked.

“Whatever you see fit,” I said.
