“Him? So, it was the Crimson Order who took you. Why are you protecting him?”

“I’m not protecting him, but he’s not coming back.”

“If they took you once, then they’ll take you again.”

“I’m not worth anything to them. That’s why they returned me.”

Cade growled, as if my answer didn’t satisfy him. “What did he look like? Did you get any details of the place where he took you? Was it a packhouse? Did it have a window to see outside? Were there other people?”

I curled his shirt into my fists and rested my forehead on the center of his chest, tears flowing down my cheeks. “Please, stop. I’m fine, Cade. I just … I just … I need someone right now, and I don’t want to be asked questions that I don’t have the answers to. I just …”

Cade finally set his arms around my shoulders again and pulled me into a hug. “Okay, I’m sorry. You’re safe here. I promise.”

Chapter Forty-Nine

Davix

“When my people find me, I’ll make sure they kill every last one of your pack members in front of you while you watch,” the man I had met at Braveclaw earlier hissed at me, grasping at his open wounds. “And your sister … oh, she’ll take it the worst.”

“Why don’t you shut the fuck up?” I snarled.

“Do you not realize that you’re starting a war you can’t finish?” he hollered.

I continued walking with his thinning white hair in my fist, dragging him along with me. I didn’t know what shit I was starting, and I didn’t care either. First, Braveclaw had taken my best warrior from me, and now?

Now my mate was gone.

After searching Black Hollows all night for her and coming up empty, I had decided that Braveclaw had to know something. And if they didn’t, then this was revenge for the way they had treated me yesterday.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “I’ll make sure to kill every last one of them too.”

“Reaper will slaughter you.”

“He can try.” I stepped onto my property and headed right for the prisons. “But he won’t have the balls to kill me, not when he knows what his little girlfriend thinks of me. He doesn’t want to be seen as the bad guy in her eyes.”

“Reaper doesn’t care about being the bad guy. He’s done more than you’ll ever know, and he’s covered it up better than anyone. The things you think I’ve ordered were really decided and acted upon by him. He’s a manipulator, and if he doesn’t want her to find out, then she won’t because—”

I slammed my foot into his jaw to shut him up.

Once I made it to the prison, I stormed to the far end of the Underground, past all the prisoners we had captured from the battle the other night, and locked that fucker right up with the rest of those assholes that he had probably sent.

“You can’t leave me in here!” he shouted as I walked away.

I didn’t know what I was going to do with him, but torture would be involved.

And a lot of it.

“Who’s that?” Silas asked.

“Leader of Braveclaw.”

Silas eyed him for a moment. “I thought you were out looking for Ember.”

“Yeah, well, he’ll do for now.” I searched through the chains and collars that we had in the prison because I wasn’t finished with Braveclaw yet. I might still be wounded, but I wasn’t weak like they thought. “Don’t tell Hazel.”

“I don’t speak to Hazel,” Silas said, lying through his teeth.

I side-eyed him, took a good-sized chain, and headed to the exit of the prison. “I know you’re fucking her.”
