Chapter Forty-Three

Davix

Why the fuck is Ember always getting herself into trouble?

I gritted my teeth and headed straight for the bathroom in my packhouse, slamming the door in Linda’s face. Hazel wasn’t going to heal me at all after what I had just said, so I’d have to do it myself.

“Are you serious?” Linda asked, banging on the door. “Let me help.”

“No,” I growled, snatching the medical tape out of the closet. “Go home.”

“After all I’ve done today, you want me to go home?!”

My sanity fucking broke, and I ripped open the door. “Are you complaining about protecting your pack?” I snarled at her, still bleeding profusely, but not giving a fuck anymore. I snatched her throat in my hand. “This is your fucking job.”

Her eyes widened, and she shook her head. “N-no. I’m sorry. I didn’t—”

“Yes, you fucking did. You meant it.” I hurled her into the hallway so hard that she hit the wall with a thud, and parts of drywall fell around her. “I cannot have a luna who cares about this pack conditionally.”

She crawled to me, still shaking her head. “I don’t care about this pack conditionally.”

“Why do you want to be luna so badly?” I sneered through my teeth, glaring down at how fucking pathetic this all was. How pathetic I was for ever letting her touch me, for thinking that she actually fucking cared. People only cared about them-fucking-selves.

“Because I … I love you.”

“No!” my wolf howled inside my head. “No, she doesn’t!”

“You don’t love me,” I said through my teeth, then slammed the door in her face.

After she finally fucking retreated out of the packhouse without another word—which confirmed what I had suspected—I cleaned my wound out and taped it up as best as I could. I didn’t want to fucking move after today.

Nor did I want to search for Ember.

She wanted to get herself into trouble, then she would have to get herself out of it. She hadn’t cared when Cade interrupted us last night. She fucking invited him in to share herself with us, and I’d fucking loathed it.

My hands balled into tight fists, my claws sinking into my palms.

Fuck.

What is wrong with her?

Once I got ahold of myself, I unclenched my fists and stared down at the blood and wounds that hadn’t even begun to start healing. As much as I hated Linda, if I mated with her, then these would heal much, much faster. Not as fast as if I sealed the bond with my true mate, but quick enough.

Ember flashed in my mind again, so I growled and stormed out of the bathroom to my bedroom. I slammed the door and shoved my entire cabinet in front of it so I wouldn’t attempt to do anything that I shouldn’t be doing.

All I needed to do was rest.

I sank down on my bed, one arm clutching the wound on my waist.

Ah, yes, re-fucking-lax and rest.

My gaze was fixed on the ceiling, my mind wandering.

Rest. I need to rest.

When I closed my eyes, my skin started to crawl, my body heating up. It was just from the pain, just from the injuries. I shook away the feeling and laid one arm over my head, a low grunt coming from my mouth.

“Find mate,” my wolf murmured. “Find mate now.”
