“That’s because you lack dedication.”
She said it without looking up from her notebook, her pen still moving across the page like she hadn’t just insulted me.
I laughed and set my camera bag beside the chair. “That’s what it is.”
“Obviously.”
She finished whatever she’d been writing and closed the notebook before joining me at the table.
“Okay. What did you bring?”
“I thought we were here to talk about pictures.”
“We can talk about pictures after I determine whether inviting you here was worth it.”
“That’s fair.”
I opened the bakery box.
Her eyes widened.
“You brought all of this?”
“Cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins, croissants.”
“There’s enough food in here for six people.”
“I didn’t know what you liked.”
“So you bought the bakery.”
“Seemed easier.”
She reached for a cinnamon roll, then stopped with her hand hovering over the box.
“Wait.”
“What?”
“Where did you get these?”
“Sweet Magnolia.”
Her hand dropped immediately.
“Okay, you can stay.”
I laughed. “That serious?”
“Their cinnamon rolls are to die for.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
She looked at me.
I reached for a blueberry muffin.
Luna seemed not to notice.
