“Can’t take it back.”
She walked out of the kitchen. “Watch me.”
I laughed.
“Where you going?”
“To sit down and wait for my food.”
“Our food.”
“The way you’re acting, yours might not make it.”
I followed her into the living room, where she took her usual spot on the couch and reached for the remote. Before I could sit down, she stretched her legs across the cushions.
“Move.”
“You have a whole couch.”
“And I want this part.”
I shook my head but sat anyway, lifting her feet into my lap.
Luna turned on the TV like the argument was settled.
Maybe it was.
I rested my hand over her ankle while she started scrolling through something for us to watch.
Nothing about the room looked different than it did that morning.
Neither did she.
I liked that too.
Naomi made a noise from behind the counter that had me looking up from the invoice in front of me.
“What?”
She didn’t answer.
“Naomi.”
“Hold on.”
I stared at her. She was standing over a stack of mail with one hand pressed against her mouth.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Then why are you standing like that?”
Her eyes lifted to mine.
“It came.”
I frowned. “What came?”
