“I know.”
I reached across the table and took her hand.
“That doesn’t change who she is to you. Mommy will always be your mommy.”
Mila nodded.
“But that doesn’t mean Miss Luna can’t be special to you too.”
Her eyes lifted back to mine.
“Like what?”
“Like Miss Luna.”
Her nose wrinkled.
“That’s it?”
I smiled. “What’s wrong with being Miss Luna?”
“Nothing.”
“You love spending time with her, right?”
She nodded.
“And she loves spending time with you.”
Another nod.
“Then you don’t have to figure out another name for it.”
She thought about that for a second before reaching for her waffle.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yeah.”
I squeezed her hand before letting go.
She took a bite, apparently satisfied enough to move on.
I should’ve known better.
“Is she your girlfriend?”
I closed my eyes.
Mila giggled.
“There it is.”
