Ellis turned.
His face changed when he saw me.
“Morning.”
“Morning.”
His eyes moved over me.
I suddenly became very aware that I probably looked exactly like somebody who woke up five minutes ago.
He smiled.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“That smile isn’t nothing.”
“I said good morning.”
“And then you looked at me like that.”
“Like what?”
I pointed toward the open cabinet.
“What are you looking for?”
“Coffee.”
“You could’ve asked.”
“You were asleep.”
“So you decided to search my kitchen?”
“I was trying to do something nice.”
“You opened the cabinet with the pots three times.”
His eyebrows pulled together.
“Three?”
“I heard you.”
“Then you could’ve saved me some time.”
I rolled my eyes and walked past him.
“The coffee is over here.”
I opened the cabinet beside the refrigerator.
Ellis looked at it.
