“What?”
“You know what you’re doing.”
“I’m sitting here.”
“You were sitting here five minutes ago too. It didn’t look like this.”
“What does it look like now?”
I stared at her.
She knew.
I could see it in the way she was looking at me, in the slight curve at the corner of her mouth.
“You want me to say it?”
Her eyes held mine.
For the first time since I walked into her office, she looked away.
She didn’t look uncomfortable. If anything, she looked like she was deciding something.
When she looked at me again, the teasing was gone.
“Come home with me.”
Everything in me stilled.
I understood exactly what she was asking, and there was nothing tucked behind the words. There was no hesitation. No easy way for either of us to pretend she’d meant something else.
No if you want to.
No unless you have something else to do.
No escape route waiting for me to take it.
Just Luna telling me what she wanted.
I searched her face.
“You sure?”
“Yes.”
One question.
One answer.
That was enough.
I leaned down and kissed her once more, slower this time.
When I pulled away, her eyes stayed closed for another second.
“Okay.”
She opened them.
