“You really did.”
I shook my head. “Go feed your child.”
He was still smiling when he reached for his camera bag.
Mila returned with her jacket hanging halfway off one shoulder.
Ellis fixed it before taking her hand.
“We’ll let you finish.”
“Thank you.”
Mila hugged me before they left.
“Bye, Miss Luna.”
“Bye, Bug.”
She headed toward the door, but Ellis stayed behind for another second.
“You did good tonight.”
I looked around the bookstore.
“So did you.”
“Pictures should be ready in a couple days.”
“No rush.”
He looked like he was about to say something else.
Instead, he stepped closer.
Close enough that I already knew what was coming.
His hand settled lightly at my waist, and he kissed me.
It was quick.
Nothing like the first one beside my car.
Nothing that left me standing there trying to remember how breathing worked.
Just a kiss.
Easy.
Familiar.
When he pulled back, his thumb brushed once against my side.
“Good night, Luna.”
“Good night.”
He turned toward the door.
