“Before you put me to work, I need to collect something.”
Luna’s eyebrows lifted.
“What?”
“Mila’s jacket.”
“Right.”
She reached beneath the counter and came back up with the little denim jacket Mila abandoned two days ago.
“I was starting to think this belonged to me now.”
“You’d have to take that up with Mila.”
“On second thought, take it.”
I laughed and folded the jacket over my arm.
She laughed.
“Where is she?”
“With my sister, Tasha. She picked her up from school.”
“Mila agreed to that?”
“She was promised ice cream.”
“Ah.”
“Her loyalty can be bought.”
“I respect it.”
I folded the jacket over my arm and glanced around the store.
Nothing seemed particularly wrong.
A few customers were scattered between the shelves. Somebody was sitting near the café with a laptop open, and Naomi was nowhere in sight.
“So.”
Luna looked at me.
“So?”
“You summoned me.”
“I did not summons you.”
“You said you needed someone able to lift things.”
“I said I needed help.”
“Same thing.”
She gave me a look before coming around the counter.
