“Did someone die from hanging here?” I called out. Why the hell was I seeing them? I refused to look up, but their boots remained in my peripheral vision.
“Jack, you’re continuing to see them?” Reaver checked.
“Yeah.”
“Okay, wrap it up, guys. I don’t know what this is, but it’s worrying.”
“She. Comes,” the Ovilus said.
“Who? Lady Mary?” I asked, turning back to the throne chair where we’d put it.
“She.”
“Who is She? Do you have a name?” I pressed.
“She.”
“We need to move. I think…” Reaver began and was cut off. The Ovilus started chanting ‘she’ repeatedly. “That’s what I assumed was about to happen,” I finished.
I grabbed the Ovilus and yanked the battery out, and the word kept repeating. I held the two parts up, showing them to Suga, and then we got the hell out of there.
Behind us, in a corner, a black figure began appearing, and evil, cackling laughter chased us away.
Chapter Five.
Jack
“Who wants to walk to the lake? I want to explore this story about hands pulling you down,” I asked.
“I’ll come,” Reaver said.
“Count me in,” Coffee and Suga added.
Haunt looked, and I shrugged. The dungeons were off limits, which left us dangling. I wanted to check out the souls-in-the-water tale.
Haunt and his team were heading for the King Edward Room.
“That’s us sorted.” I grinned. “We need some rope.”
Reaver eyed me warily. “We do?”
“Yeah, if one of us is pulled in, then the others need to drag him out,” I said.
Haunt chuckled. “Take a long rope.”
I smirked at my team, who rolled their eyes.
“Go on then, tie it around you,” Reaver mocked.
“I thought you might want to ask questions this time,” I taunted.
“That’s why we have you. You’re the lead investigator and also the presenter,” Reaver shot back.
“Yellow-belly,” I teased as I moved to the edge.
“If anyone’s taking a bath, it’s you,” Reaver responded.
I tied the rope around my waist and stepped into the water. It was surprising how quickly this part dropped off.
