“Fine.” I race back to my room to call MAK. She’s making this happen for me, and I can’t thank her enough. I’m starting to enjoy living here in Chicago. Nothing has changed about why I’m here, but I’m getting to make friends, which is good. I dial MAK.

“Hey, Jola.” MAK's voice comes through

“Hey. Thanks for planning this. I can’t wait to meet Cole A.”

“No worries. We couldn’t let your birthday pass without doing anything.”

“Thank you. So, what time tomorrow are we heading out?”

“Not sure yet, but Andrea will loop us all in. She’s Cole A’s girlfriend.” MAK says

“Perfect. I’ll wait for your message.”

“Sounds good.”

“Thanks. Bye.” I happily hang up

We hang up, and I rush to my closet, only to realize I don’t have anything to wear. I’m going to need Emily, ASAP. I head back to the living room, but Ice isn’t there. He wouldn’t leave without telling me. That means he’s with Bruce, and I have to wait.

Chapter fifty-three

Bruce

I put my phone down and grunt in frustration. It doesn’t take long before I hear a tap on the door. I know it’s Ice. It’s his style. He pops his head in.

“She told me you said yes?” he asks, his tone questioning.

I wave him in, and he closes the door. “Just so I’m clear, Lexi just told me you said yes, that she can go clubbing tomorrow night with the wives of your friends and Cole A.”

“I just texted the guys. It seems they’ve all lost their balls.”

He chuckles.

“So, what’s the plan?”

“Tighten security. Reach out to Smith and the others. I need as many men as possible. Nothing can go wrong.” I command

“Alright. This should be fun, telling the guys they’re going clubbing tomorrow night.” He mocks; we both know the guys don’t like last minute plans

“Thanks, Ice. And keep Malik in the loop. I need every angle of that club.”

“Got it.”

He leaves, and I realize I need to think through this whole girls outing carefully. Every angle has to be under surveillance. I might need Malik to coordinate with his cousin, Cole A. I know he has bodyguards, but I’ll need them working with my team.

Jola cannot and must not be exposed. This is one of those moments when I’m not happy with MAK, but Daniel will probably come for me if I say anything about his wife. I’m definitely sending each of them the bill for all the extra men and resources needed to cover the women. They could have hosted a party for her at home, but a club night with Cole A could either be great or turn into a mess, and that worries me because it could put her in danger.

Chapter fifty-four

Bruce

Daniel connects me with Cole A, who’s willing to open up his security team so my guys can coordinate with his. I had to ask. I expected him to be difficult about it.

“Can I ask why you’re open to going along with my request?”

“For starters, Daniel will pull MAK away from working with me if I don’t agree, and my girl Andrea will probably break up with me if MAK isn’t working with me. You’ve got my cousin Malik working for you, and he likes his job with you, and he said this is important. So I’m happy to open up my team. Besides, it just means more protection, right? I can’t have any of the ladies getting hurt. You and your buddies would probably bury me in lawsuits after beating my ass.” He jokes

I laugh. Daniel will be the first to beat his ass if anything happens to MAK.
