“He can either give us more or nothing, but it’s worth knowing.”

“Ms Debbie called for an escort,” Malik says.

“Aren’t the guys already doing that weekly?” I question

“Yes, but she said she had a big sale and would like to move the money.”

“Fine, send the guys back.” I state

“She asked for you to come,” Malik says quietly. They all know I barely tolerate that woman.

“Cute, but let her know I said no. She can find another company. I’m not coming with the guys,” I snap. Damn it.

“Got it. What about the woman?”

“I’ll deal with her tomorrow,” I say. “Anything else?”

“No boss. All is quiet with Pete and the others. Smith is also back home and resting.”

“Thanks Malik.”

“Night boss.”

I shut the computer down and we leave the room.

“Is she good?” Ice asks, his voice low with concern.

He cares about her. I have never seen him invest so much in a client. “I think so, but she needs time to rest.”

He nods.

“You can leave, Ice. I’ve got her.”

He nods, but I can tell he does not want to leave. That tells me he will be here early. I go back to the room. She is still asleep. I sit and watch her and can’t imagine life without her.

Chapter sixty-five

Lexi/Jola

I showered, changed, and applied my makeup. Concern is written on Bruce’s face as he watches me, his eyes tight with worry. I turn to him smiling.

“I’m calling Jonah,” I say. “I want to look my best before he sends an army to come and get me.”

He nods, but his eyes stay on me, still heavy with concern.

“What’s wrong?” I ask.

“Nothing. I just can’t believe I almost lost you,” he says. His voice carries a quiet shake. I step closer and hug him tight.

“I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, Mr. Darcy. You kept your promise about keeping me safe. We’re in this together, right?” I ask softly.

“Yes, I got you, Sprinkles,” he says, kissing my forehead. “Let’s call Jonah.”

He makes the call and explains everything to him, including the hospital and that I’m back home and okay. Jonah, of course, insists on speaking to me alone.

“I need to see her and speak to her alone,” I hear him shout.

“I’m right here,” I quickly cut in. I know my brother won’t settle until he hears me directly. Bruce doesn’t like it, but he steps out. Once the door closes, I speak.
