I listened to the entire conversation. They had all been sitting in the kitchen, talking about the aftermath of the attack from their own soldiers. I’d been watching from my usual spot when the whole thing went down. I could do nothing but watch on. Otherwise, I risked revealing myself to them.

If it had come to giving away my position or saving Lukyan, though, I would have done it in a heartbeat. Lucky for me, however, the whole thing had been over quite quickly, with not a single hair out of place on my beautiful Lukyan’s head.

My phone vibrated, a text message appearing in the middle of the screen.

My Luky Bear: Who are you?

I squeaked.

Oh my god.

He texted me back.

Excited, nervous energy burst throughout my entire body.

I wasn’t sure if he would actually respond or not. He never had before. Granted, that was the first time I’d ever texted him, but still. My love letters had all remained unanswered. I just assumed the same would happen when I texted him too.

Keep it cool, Lyla.

I took a deep breath in, making myself count to five before typing out a response.

Me: Given the events of today, I am willing to forgo that transgression, my love. But never again. You know who I am. I am yours, and you are mine. Until death do us part.

Light footsteps echoed in the air, getting louder and louder with each passing second. I locked my phone and held my breath. A stream of light erupted into the room as the door opened. From my position under the bed, I could just make out a pair of black combat boots and long, lean legs clad in dark trousers.

I didn’t even need to see more to know who it was. I would have known that aura anywhere.

There was a brief moment of hesitation, Lukyan hovering in the doorway before he came inside his bedroom, turned on the light, and shut the door.

I didn’t even dare to draw breath.

What now, Lyla?

I DON’T FUCKING KNOW.

I’d been in his room more times than I could count. So many times, in fact, that I could map the whole place out and move around in complete darkness.

I knew the position of all his furniture. That the en suite was exactly twenty-three and a half steps from the window on the far wall. Knew he kept a collection of old-school porn magazines in the bottom of his dresser drawers. He hadn’t opened them in a while. If he had, he would have seen that I replaced all the pictures of naked women with a photo of me in my catsuit. Heh, heh.

But I’d never—and I mean never—been in that room at the same time as him when he was awake.

Partly because I didn’t trust myself not to throw away everything I had planned and demand he take me there and then.

On top of being an adrenaline junkie, I also had poor impulse control.

Surprised?

Not really.

Lukyan moved further into the room, and I remembered I needed to fucking breathe, or I was going to pass out.

Carefully, so very fucking carefully, I shifted my body just slightly so I could peek out from under the bed to see him fully.

My heart slammed in my chest at the sight of him. Lukyan was side-on to me, and I watched, entranced as he casually rolled his big shoulders out of his jacket. He loosened his tie with one hand before pulling it over his head, and then slowly began unbuttoning his dress shirt.

He stopped halfway, leaning forward to glance at his phone, which he’d placed down on a table beside the three-seater couch. A devilish smirk graced his lips, and he scoffed, shaking his head.

He picked it up, typed something quickly, and returned it to the table to continue undressing.
