“Kristina.” Her voice is low, horse, no doubt from screaming.
Kristina. Her names bounces around my head.
“Kristina” I repeat. “Like I said, I am Tyson. I am here to help you, I can give you a ride anywhere. Hospital, police station. Just take it.” I nod to my hand.
Still nothing.
I might have to force a touch, but I do not really want to do that. I know some Reapers have just taken their mate, but I want her consent. Consent is needed to build trust and loyalty when it comes to mates.
Inching closer, she flinches, but I hold back from reacting.
“Sweetheart, I swear, I will cause you no harm. I know what you have gone through is scary as fuck, but I can help you. Come with me, baby. That man will never hurt you again.”
Her body moves, slower than a fucking snail, but she moves. My black heart beats a fraction faster, waiting for her to touch me.
I watch her, watching me. The very second her fingertips touch mine, it is like the world tilts, she gasps, eyes wide as she stares at me. My grunt is deep, almost animalistic.
“Mine.”
CHAPTER TWO
Kristina
My body shakes as I stare at the man in front of me.
He is huge, bigger than any man I have seen before and in my job as a bartender at a sports bar, where we see a load of men, that is saying something.
He has dark hair, that is shaved short, and these eyes that draw you in. They were red when he sends that man into a hole in the floor that filled with fire.
How did he do that?
I have heard stories when working but never seen anything that would believe the stories are true.
That is until that man took me. His eyes were always black, and his laugh was twisted with a growl that made my heart want to stop. Horror movies are my favorite, so I knew after a time that he was a demon or possessed.
“Sweetheart, I swear, I will cause you no harm. I know what you have gone through is scary as fuck, but I can help you. Come with me, baby. That man will never hurt you again.”
His voice makes me jolt; I refocus on him.
It should scare me, but his words settle something in my chest, and I feel deep down that I can trust him. My dirty hands shake, as I reach out to take the hand he is offering.
My fingertips graze his and something snaps together in my chest, I gasp, while he growls, making my body tingle.
“Mine.” He grunts, so deep, I have to look around for an animal.
I go to pull back but his large hand wraps around mine, pulling me into his body.
“You are okay now, baby. Nothing will hurt you again.” He murmurs into my hair.
I know I smell bad but he doesn’t seem to care. For days, that man kept me in the trunk of his car, or in run down house he found. We moved around a lot. He barely fed me, giving me scraps of food now and then.
Thankfully, he hadn’t done anything
I couldn’t come back from it, but I know that was his plan. He did cut me a few times, but nothing too deep.
Tyson helps me to my feet before sweeping me into his arms, bridal style and walking out of the building.
“We need to get you cleaned up and checked over.” His voice is deep, but I find it soothing.
