Now it’s my turn to raise my brows in shock because who the fuck posted my bail?

“Are you sure?” I ask as he opens the cell door.

“Is your name Bennett Huxley?”

“Yeah.”

“Then I’m pretty fucking sure. Turn around and put your hands behind your back,” the officer orders.

I comply. The feeling of the cold metal locking down on my wrists doesn’t piss me off. This time I know I’m about to get out. I’m just wondering who is waiting for me on the other side.

Mountain is pressed up against his door as the officer leads me past.

“What the fuck?” he mouths.

All I can do is shrug.

I have no fucking clue what’s going on, but he knows I’m coming for him next.

The officer takes me into a room and gives me my paperwork and a clear plastic bag that holds my clothes. He leaves me long enough to let me change out of this scratchy fucking jumpsuit and into my grass-stained clothes.

I walk out the only exit that leads outside, tossing the plastic bag into the trash can on the way out.

I stop dead in my tracks as I see Blake leaned up against her car with her arms crossed, pushing her big tits up that I’m going to stick my dick between tonight.

She looks mad as hell, but she’s here.

I walk toward her as a grin slowly breaks out onto my face with each passing step.

“Why, toots, did you bail your man out of jail?”

Blake pushes off the car, that permanent bitch expression that I love still in place. “You’re not my man.”

“I’m not?” I challenge. “Are you in the business of bailing random guys out of jail? Because I’ve got to tell you, toots, I’m cool with a lot of shit, but that isn’t one of them. Not unless it’s one of my brothers.”

Her expression cracks at the mention of Mountain. “They wouldn’t let me bail Mountain out because I didn’t know his legal name.”

I pull her into me, shoving her face into the crook of my neck. “Don’t sweat it, babe. I’m going to bail his stupid ass out right now. Just wait for us, yeah?”

She nods against me.

I place a kiss on the top of her head. “I’ll be back. Wait in the car.”

Blake steps back as I release my hold on her. For the first time in her life, she doesn’t give me lip as she listens to me and gets in the car.

“Lock it,” I order.

Once I hear the locks click into place, I head back inside the jail, this time through the front entrance.

I doubt anything would happen to her in the parking lot of the jail, but you never know with her ass, and it will give me peace of mind. I’ve come to realize that chaos follows toots, and I’m making it my mission to ease some of that load.

The same stale air that was in the jail hits me as I open the door to the magistrate’s office, making me scrunch my nose up in disgust. God, it’s like they can’t afford a damn air freshener with all the money they’re stealing from people.

The woman working behind the desk calls me up through the plexiglass.

“How can I help you?” she asks through the speaker.

“I need to place bail for Lucas Abbott.”
