“I think you need to remember who the boss is around here. I might have made you the general manager of this place, but I still fucking own it. I’m starting to think I made the wrong decision.”
My heart is pounding in my chest from a mixture of rage and fear. I can’t lose this job. I just bought a house that drained all the money I had to my name. I wouldn’t make it a month. I’m just so fucking sick of him acting like his shit doesn’t stink and he can get away with treating me like this.
“You didn’t make the wrong decision,” I barely get out through a clenched jaw.
“I didn’t?” Russ challenges. “That wasn’t you I saw on camera talking to Sling?”
I inhale deeply, trying to calm myself down, but it isn’t working.
If I ever leave this place, I’m getting on Big Jack’s shoulders so I can reach and taking a baseball bat to every single camera and smashing them.
“It slipped my mind. The place was packed tonight. It won’t happen again,” I lie through my teeth.
If Russ isn’t paying me to do him a favor, the favor isn’t happening.
Russ pins me with one last hard stare before pushing off the door frame. “It better not.”

SLING
“She’s a feisty thing,” Mountain tells me once we’re back at the clubhouse.
Lilah did as she was asked and got the other club girls together to decorate for Scar. I threw her five hundred bucks thinking it would cover a few balloons and some food and shit. What I wasn’t expecting was to walk into the clubhouse decked out to the max with a buffet of food set up.
She has shit hanging from the ceiling, and if one more of those things touches my head, making me think there’s something on me, it’s all coming down.
Poor girl is acting like she’s already in the ol’ lady roll. She doesn’t get that it’s never going to happen. At least not with Scar.
Scar looks happy, though.
He has all three girls fawning over him and hasn’t had to get up for even a beer since we got back from Losti Ravn Gentlemen’s Club.
“Who?” I ask, playing dumb.
I know exactly who he’s talking about. I just don’t want to talk about it right now.
“What do you mean, who? You know who.”
I sigh as I lean back in my seat. “Do we have to fucking go there?”
Mountain looks like he’s enjoying this. “Uh, fuck yeah. It’s been a long time since someone has caught my attention. I like her moxie.”
I look at him with a bewildered expression. “You like her moxie? Are you speaking English?”
Mountain snickers. “Don’t hate because you’re uneducated. Some of us here have more than street smarts.”
“Oh, don’t give me that bullshit. You had to fuck your high school English teacher to let you pass just so you could graduate.”
Uneducated my ass.
“Yeah,” Mountain says with a duh look on his face. “And that took moxie. Moxie recognizes moxie.”
I wave my hand at him as the bewildered expression doesn’t leave my face. “Man, get the fuck out of here. There is no way in hell that word is in your vocabulary when just yesterday you were asking me what animal ham comes from.”
Mountain glares at me. “That ham tasted like beef, and you know it.”
