It’s something she would never admit to feeling because she’s strong. So fucking strong.

She had to deal with the cards life dealt her and still continues to hand her.

She’ll learn, though.

Because the next time her dad shows his face, I’ll be at her back.

My fist tightens on my steering wheel as I whip into my spot outside the pizzeria. I look up at the windows above it and see a small light in the bathroom window.

If I were a good man, I would have gone home first and cooled off, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. She needs to learn that the monster will only hurt her if she begs for it.

I cut the engine, letting the silence engulf me as I stare up at her bathroom window. I’ve zoned out so completely that I have no idea how much time has passed. Her naked body passing in front of the window snaps me out of it. I should feel like a fucking perv for watching her like this. My cock stirs at the thought of her not knowing I’m watching.

Her arms rise above her head as she towel dries her hair, giving me the perfect side view of her round breasts. They jiggle with every tussle she gives her hair.

My head slams back against the headrest.

Fuck, I knew they would be the perfect handful.

I open my car door and step out, rolling up the sleeves of my shirt, adjusting myself. I casually make my way to my destination.

It’s time for your monster to play, cara.

Chapter

Thirteen

BRONWYN

I’m so sick of my days feeling so long and exhausting.

At this point, they’re just blurring into each other. Even if I do find sleep, I don’t feel rested or recharged. A long, hot shower isn’t even doing it for me anymore. The tension is still burning in my shoulders from the weight I’ve been carrying around. It physically hurts to dry my hair, which is why settling for a quick towel dry will have to do. I know I’m going to regret it in the morning when I wake up looking like I’ve been electrocuted, but that’s tomorrow’s problem.

I slip on an emerald green lounge set, grab a drink from the fridge, and settle in on my couch as I fire up my gaming system, hoping Wiz is on so I can vent to someone freely. I’ve thought about how much easier it would be if we exchanged numbers, but neither one of us has made the first move to make it happen. It feels like a line we both silently agreed never to cross.

Plus, what if I meet him and he isn’t what I built him up to be in my head? Not that it would matter as long as he isn’t someone who doesn’t sleep with a fan on or something, but I still think a small part of me would be disappointed.

After cracking open my Diet Coke, I stick a bendy straw in it and take a long sip as I log into my saved game and wait for it to load.

I bet Gio would have an umbrella in his.

Just as I’m grabbing my headset off the cushion next to me, the lock at my front door rattles, causing my head to whip to the side and watch in silent horror as the handle jiggles.

Holy shit.

My pulse races as my heart feels like it’s crawled into my throat.

What if Brian isn’t really dead, and he’s come back to finish the job?

The door handle stops moving, leaving my apartment eerily quiet. All I can hear is the sound of my breathing and my heart pounding in my ears. My hand clenches the top of my headset as I stupidly wait, my eyes wide and alert.

To my horror, the lock clicks, echoing throughout my apartment before the door bursts open, bouncing off the wall.

I gasp, my hand flying to my chest as I watch Gio saunter in with a scowl on his face. The sleeves of his shirt are rolled up and the top three buttons undone, giving me a tease of the skin underneath. His hair is messy, almost as if he’s been running his fingers through it.

He looks like a beast stuck in a cage, and I’ve never witnessed anything hotter in my entire life.

Gio grabs my front door and slams it shut behind him without breaking stride. I hold my breath as he crosses the few feet until he stops before me. My head tilts back slowly, my eyes taking their time to roam every delicious inch of him until I meet his eyes.
