“I ride out in five with or without you!” I yell back, already halfway out the door.

“Goddamnit,” Cyrus bites out.

Two minutes later, Cyrus walks out the front door of the clubhouse, pulling a shirt over his head. “You want to tell me what’s going on?”

“Aisling called and said someone broke into her place,” I tell him as I mount my bike.

“What the fuck? Did she call the cops?” Cyrus asks, following suit.

“Don’t know. She sounded freaked and said he’s in the house. She locked herself in Cormac’s room.”

A hard look comes over Cyrus’ face. “Let’s ride.”

I’ve never felt adrenaline like this in my life, not even when I took my first ride. It’s a distinct feeling when it’s someone you love on the line and you’re trying to get to them.

I’m really scared, Hash.

Her voice was fucking shaking.

Whoever made her feel like that is going to bleed rivers of blood.

Cyrus and I fly onto her short driveway. I’m off my bike and sprinting toward her house, desperate to see my woman and kid. I need to see with my own two eyes that they’re okay.

Finding the key that I swiped out of her junk drawer on my chain, I unlock the door and sprint toward Cormac’s room, hearing his screams and cries.

“Holy shit,” I hear Cyrus say behind me, but I don’t pay any mind. All I can think about is my woman and my son.

My heart is in my stomach at the sight of Cormac’s door busted down and practically folded in half over his dresser.

“Aisling!” I yell. My eyes are wild and frantic as I take in the scene before me.

Cormac’s face is beat red with tears streaming down it as he screams bloody murder, arms outstretched through the slats in the crib toward his mom, who is lying lifeless on the floor.

Leaping over the dresser, I crouch next to her.

“Aisling, wake up, baby doll,” I say desperately, my voice sounding foreign to my ears as I gently shake her, looking for any sign that she’s alive.

Nothing.

Cormac screams louder as I shake Aisling again. “Come on, baby. You need to wake up.”

“Hash,” Cyrus’ voice sounds from behind me.

“You need to wake up,” I repeat, my voice cracking. “I can’t lose you after I just got you back.”

“Hash, brother,” Cyrus says again, his voice low with sympathy as hand grabs my shoulder, trying to pull me away.

I shrug him off, going back to Aisling.

“I know you want to help her, but you shaking her while we don’t know what happened isn’t going to help. Do you want to fuck her up even more?” Cyrus asks, moving in to pull me back again. I resist but don’t shrug him off. My eyes are locked on the welt that’s on the side of her face. I can practically see it growing in size before my eyes. “Go to your son, brother. He needs you. I already called Prez, and he’s on his way. Texted Doc too.”

I don’t move, not able to leave her until I know she’s alive.

“She’s breathing, brother. Look at her chest moving up and down. That’s a good sign.”

My mind is numb as I nod my head, looking up for the first time and really seeing Cormac. His face is the color of a tomato, and his little lungs sound like they hurt from screaming and crying for God knows how long.

I slowly stand and carefully step around Aisling and reach inside the crib to pick my son up, who now has his arms outstretched to me.
