"Ya gave me a script, Cash. I'm gonna say exactly what you wrote."

He eyes me for a moment. Squintin' a little. "Well, try your best then."

"What's that mean?"

"You'll see."

There's no time to ask a follow-up, because the waiter returns with a tray and our drinks. Each chair has a small side table with an ashtray, a box that I think is a humidor, and a small pewter vase that contains exactly one daisy.

Interesting combination.

I take the drink and give it a sip.

Cash is watchin' me as he takes his drink, then immediately sets it on the table. "It's good, right?"

I shrug. "Sure. It's good."

"You're a weird guy, you know that, Legion?"

"I can't say that I do, actually."

"I just can't figure you out," he says. "This whole tattoo thing you have going."

I set the glass down, having no intention of drinking it all. Cash didn't even take one sip, so we're on the same page here. "What about it?"

"Angels and demons? They call you Demon, right? That's what that jacket of yours says."

"They do."

"Why?"

"Why?" I laugh. "My given name is Legion, Cash. It's got baggage."

"I guess. It's just… all very dramatic."

"Says the man named after money."

He laughs too. "I wasn't named after money. I was named after the man in black."

"Then I guess we got somethin' in common."

We people watch after that. Just wastin' time. We're not here to catch up or be casual. But the minutes pass and soon, Cash is standin' again.

"All right," he says. "Follow me."

I do. The script he gave me when we made this plan the other morning is short. It's a threat. It's the whole reason Cash told the barber to 'make him respectable but keep him dangerous'.

I didn't know that Marcus was still botherin' Savannah until Cash told me. She hadn't mentioned it. Which was a good play on her part because it would've gone bad for him. And I'd probably be back in prison right now.

"You can't just walk up and threaten a senator's son on the street, Legion," Cash explained out at the well pump. "If you need to threaten a man like that, you gotta be inside when you do it."

"Inside where?" I'd asked.

"His world."

So that's why we're here.

I'm gonna get my chance.
