I wished I could tell them everything that’d happened with Daddy Devlin but it was too embarrassing. Plus, if it got out, the story would make him look bad.

No boss wanted his employees to know he was caught wanking in his office. And I definitely didn’t want them to know I was so horny I flashed him my vagina.

Okay, that made it sound slightly worse than it was, but he’d made me so wet downstairs that my knickers were basically transparent, meaning he would’ve seen everything.

‘Not particularly,’ I lied.

‘Come on!’ Dana scoffed. ‘You’ve been working a lot with Mr Devlin—’

‘Lucky cow,’ Joe jumped in.

‘I know, right? How do you focus on what he’s saying without wanting to sit on his lap?’

If only you knew.

I attempted to swallow the lump of concrete in my throat.

Beads of sweat pooled along my hairline. I needed to get out of this dress before I started getting sweaty armpits.

‘I… Clearly he’s good-looking, but he’s my boss,’ I said diplomatically.

‘Such a shame,’ Dana sighed.

‘It is,’ Joe added. ‘God really was showing off when he created the Devlin brothers. It’s unnatural to have so many hot men in one family.’

‘Right! And it’s cruel to make them off limits. It’s like making us spend all day working in a French patisserie, where we can see and smell all of the gorgeous, delicious buttery pastries, but not being allowed to eat any of them.’

‘Exactly!’ Joe said.

I couldn’t agree more. I felt like I was Eve craving the forbidden fruit.

‘Maybe there’ll be some great guys at the awards,’ I said, trying to convince myself and steer the conversation away from the man who’d make me overheat in this dress if I kept thinking of him.

‘Here’s hoping,’ Dana said.

‘Anyway, we’ve tortured ourselves enough about the men we can’t have for one evening. Let’s get back to finding you some gorgeous outfits.’

I looked in the mirror and blinked multiple times. I didn’t recognise myself.

It was now Friday evening – the night of the awards – and I was in a cool London hair salon. Because I’d worked so many late nights, Calista had let me finish earlier to get my hair and make-up done for the event and my ‘glam squad’ as Dana called them had just finished the transformation.

And it really was a Cinderella moment.

The hairdresser had cut the dead ends off, dyed my hair a rich chocolate brown shade which made it look super glossy, and used some wizardry to make my curls more defined.

My thick, unruly eyebrows had been shaped which made my eyes look bigger. And the make-up was incredible.

The make-up artist had accentuated my eyes and applied a fire engine red lipstick which made me feel like a celebrity siren.

And when I paired it with the dress… Wow.

I didn’t mean to sound big-headed, but I had no idea that I could look this good. I felt like a completely different person. But in a good way.

‘Now for the heels!’ Dana said excitedly.

She also looked stunning in a little black dress and a glam updo.

I picked up the gold stilettos and when I slid them on, an extra wave of confidence washed over me.
