I smirk, trying not to notice how big his dick is. Though, everything about him is getting harder to ignore.
“Yeah? Well, bratty loudmouths aren’t mine.”
And yet, he’s the one who is sporting a hard-on.
“Move over,” he barks, and I shift to my side of the bed, feeling the mattress dip as he climbs in. The light goes out. Then the blanket is yanked off me. I tug it back, and he grumbles again.
“Is growling your second language?” I huff, tucking the blanket under my arms so he can’t steal it from me again. The temperature is already dropping, and I have no intention of freezing to death because this man apparently has an issue with sharing.
“I was supposed to be on a fucking vacation,” he mutters. “By myself. Alone. Basking in the silence.” He yanks the blanket again. “And now I’m stuck babysitting a brat who apparently has a death wish.”
“It’s not like I asked for this.” I tug the blanket back. “And please, feel free to take me home so you don’t have to put up with me. It’s not like I begged to be kidnapped.”
He lets out a long breath and turns away.
“Let’s just go to bed. I’m fucking done with this day.”
Fine by me.
Except…
I can’t sleep. I lie in the darkness, listening to his heavy breaths while a million thoughts race through my mind. Does my dad even know they’ve taken me? Will he find the money to pay them back? Four million dollars is a lot. And I know my father isn’t willing to part with any of his precious cars. He’d probably rather see me shot than give up one of his prized possessions to get the money he needs.
“What happens if he can’t get the money?”
My question disappears into the darkness, and the silent seconds tick by as his growly breaths grow heavier. He’s still awake. He just doesn’t want to answer me.
“Will they kill me?”
Nothing.
“Thanks for nothing.” I roll over, facing away from him.
“We’re not into killing women, okay?”
His voice is lower. I can hear how heavy the exhaustion is.
“But your dad? That’s another story. If he doesn’t pay, he’ll face the consequences.”
Relief loosens something in my chest. At least, I’m not going to die, but I wish they had left me out of this mess. I’m positive I’ll be fired after this. Which may be a blessing. But I need a paycheck to survive. I refuse to ask my dad for anything. Not that he would give me money because he owes it all to Don Dario.
“I knew I should’ve emancipated myself and changed my name.” I stare into the darkness, regretting so many choices. “His toxicity spreads like a plague.”
The mattress shifts, and I feel his stare against my back.
“I thought you were Daddy’s pride and joy.”
“Ha!” I turn to face him. “His pride and joy are his cars. And the penis between his legs.”
His mouth twitches.
“We aren’t on speaking terms right now,” I add. “So, we can safely say I’m not his number-one priority.”
“Did you two have a falling out?”
“He called me fat when I told him I wanted to open up a cupcake bakery.” My throat tightens, thinking of all the insecurities my father has tried to implant inside my head. It’s like it was a mind control thing for him. “So, I stormed out. It’s been nearly two months since we’ve spoken. I only know about his car because he posted pictures of it online.”
“You are not fat, gorgeous.”
