Bane stared at him and asked, “Like what?”
“It’s gonna sound nuts,” Dino replied. “But just listen for a minute.”
Everyone in the room stayed quiet.
Dino launched into the story, “Two sisters ran the Inn. They were nice enough I guess but it seems gramps was a real catch cuz both women fell for him. He only loved one of them though. So the one who was rejected sought revenge. But there was some other man here too. Like a maintenance guy? And he is somehow involved too. We aren’t sure though which sister burned the place down. But it was this other guy who dragged Grandpa out and took him miles away.”
The group all stared at him.
Dino shrugged. “It’s a true story.”
“So after forty years, how does it help coming back here?” Orrin asked.
“I promised my mother,” Jillian replied. “I bought the place. She’s gone now but she wanted me to find out what happened. One of the sisters was her best friend.”
“Then here’s the part that is really interesting,” Matthew said as he leaned forward.
“They won’t believe you, Grandpa,” Dino warned him.
“We’ve seen and experienced things that were hard to believe,” Sheba said as she laughed.
Ari grinned and nodded her head. “Yeah, we have an aunt who can like... fly.”
“And not in a plane either,” Sheba added.
The room got quiet again as this wild statement settled in.
“For real?” Dino asked as he had never heard about this.
Both women and Orrin nodded their heads.
“If you would have come to visit like we asked,” Sheba said with a smirk. “You could have been there. Your Aunt Faith is a super soldier, man. She can do things that would blow your mind.”
“Ghosts, right?” Frank asked as he interrupted them.
They all turned their heads to stare at him.
He motioned down at his lap where his laptop sat. “I already looked this place up earlier when Bane gave me the address. This house has a curse or something, like it isn’t even supposed to be here.”
“What the hell does that mean?” Bane grumbled.
“He means that every year on the anniversary of the sister’s demise, the place burns down,” Matthew explained.
Nodding her head, Jillian said, “Then it is back the next day like it never happened.”
“Nah, man,” Orrin spoke up. “Impossible.” He looked over at Jillian. “You sure that isn’t like something they made up to draw people here?”
Dino laughed. “Well, if so... That shit doesn’t work. No one comes here as far as we know.” He looked over at Jillian. “Right?”
“No one comes near it.” She shrugged. “The locals won’t even talk about it.”
“So, have you seen any ghosts?” Sheba asked them.
Dino let out a breath and shook his head.
Jillian nodded.
Matthew was the only one to speak up, “Yes, we saw Claire. She was very unpleasant too.”
