The sound that left him this time was all demon; the angel had retreated and her mate’s hunger for her was right there on the surface. Anticipation had been simmering inside her all day, reaching feverish heights the moment she saw him sitting in the diner, and now it fired through her again, wilder than ever.
Her mate was loving, caring, gentle, always, but he was also half demon, not one trace of human blood in him. When the warrior surfaced for her, when she called him forward, there was no containing it—containing him.
Now she was trembling as well.
Finally, she moved around until she was facing him, her hands never leaving his feverish skin, not once. “I’m ready to fly,” she whispered.
On a snarl, his arms came around her, hauling her off her feet. She locked her arms around his neck and her legs around his hips, and he shot into the sky as his mouth slammed down on hers.
His hand slid between them, undoing his jeans, the other on her butt.
“Shove your panties aside,” he gritted out against her lips.
“I’m not wearing any.”
Another snarl, then he was shoving up her dress. He positioned himself—
And slid home as they shot higher into the night sky, bodies tangled, clinging to each other, their movements desperate, greedy.
“I love you, sweets. Christ, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Then words were impossible.
So Meredith hung on tight, safe in his arms, laughing and kissing, making love with her mate under the night sky, so high it felt like they were just two more stars.
