Then she kissed him, and Kryos stopped thinking about anything else.

Except his female.

His mate.

Epilogue

Note: This epilogue takes place after Knight’s Absolution, but contains no major spoilers.

Meredith walked into the living room to a chorus of hoots and whistles. Laughing, she glanced down at herself. Okay, yeah, she guessed she had gone all out for tonight. But then she did every year for her and Kryos’s anniversary. Every year with her mate was special, something to be cherished and most definitely celebrated.

Fifty-one years together.

A lifetime for some.

Just a blip in time for others.

“Girl, you look stunning,” Grace said. “How do you get your hair so shiny. I’ve been envious of it ever since I met you.”

Meredith sat on the couch and slid on her spiked heels. She was going for sexy temptress tonight. Their first anniversary, she’d worn her diner uniform. It was still in the back of her closet. Maybe it could make another appearance later tonight.

“You’ll have to ask Kryos,” she said answering Grace. “He bought this new hairbrush from QVC one night that promised to ‘make you shine’ and it actually works.”

Eve sat beside her. “That was nice. Don’t get me wrong, Laz does sweet things, but he’d never think, ‘hey, I’m gonna buy my female a hairbrush.’”

Meredith chuckled. “Well, seeing as Kryos is the one who brushes my hair, I guess it was for both of us.”

“Really?” Mia asked as she handed Meredith her jacket.

“Yep, every night since I moved into this apartment with him.” She grinned slipping the jacket on. “In his lap, of course.”

“But of course,” Luna said, lavender eyes dancing. “Are you sure you don’t need a ride?”

“I have it covered, but thanks.” A knot of sadness coiled tight in her belly. She hoped she did, anyway. “But I’ll let you know if there’s a change of plans. I might still need you.”

“We’re here for you,” Grace said.

Eve gave her hand a squeeze. “For anything.”

“Any time,” Mia said, pulling her in for a quick hug.

Luna smiled, her gaze full of warmth and love. “Always.”

She finally had the sisters she’d always dreamed of, and the reality far surpassed anything she’d imagined. “I love you guys.”

Meredith walked out to a chorus of “I love yous” and headed for the elevator.

The doors slid open to a darkened fifth floor, just the glow of the computers lighting her way to the balcony.

There were three things they did every year on their anniversary. Traditions, she guessed. The first was her and Kryos meeting at the diner where they first met. It was still there, nothing had changed. Kryos had bought the place not long after they found each other. He kept it the way it had been back then, and the retro diner had become a kind of landmark destination in Roxburgh.

The second was purposely avoiding each other during the day. Yes, she still got the same thrill every time she laid eyes on him, that had never changed in all these years. But the anticipation after a day apart, of walking in and finding him sitting at that booth, his booth, lifted goose bumps all over her skin every time.

And the third was Rocco flying her safely to her mate every year. He’d done it for the last fifty years. But with everything he was going through right now, she wasn’t sure he’d show tonight. If he’d even remember what the date was. They used to hang out, talk, but not lately, after everything he’d been through.

They were losing him, and none of them knew how to stop it.

How to bring him home.
