She felt so many things when it came to this male.
He still crowded her, like he was afraid she’d pull away, but she didn’t want to go anywhere. She wanted to be right here, with him, always.
Kryos searched her gaze as he cupped the side of her face. “When me and my brothers were training with the angels, becoming the warriors we needed to be for the fight between Heaven and Hell, we were each promised a reward for our sacrifice. Because this fight, it doesn’t end, it will never end. The angels said that one day our rewards would come, and that all the pain, the endless battle, would be worth it. And that the fight for control with our inner demons would end.”
He’d dipped his head closer as he spoke. His voice was gentle and had a low rasp to it that caused tingles and goose bumps to erupt over her skin.
“You’ve been fighting a long time?” she asked.
“Yes.”
“And now you’re getting your reward?” She looked deep into his eyes.
“Yes,” he growled.
Meredith was finding it hard to breathe all of a sudden. “W-what is it?”
He leaned in closer so his cheek brushed hers, his stubble abrading her skin, then he lifted his head, his mouth an inch from hers. “You.”
She stilled, blinking up at him. “Me?”
He tucked her hair behind her ear. “Every knight has a mate out there somewhere. You are mine, Meredith.”
“I’m your…mate?” she whispered.
He nodded. “Yes…or you will be if you want it, if you want me.”
“I don’t understand.” She had to be hallucinating. This couldn’t be real.
You’re half demon, but this is where you draw the line on reality?
“I’m asking you to be mine. To let me love and care for you, protect and cherish you for eternity,” he said, his gentle brown gaze unwavering.
“Eternity?”
His smile returned. “If you say yes, you will live forever…with me.”
Oh my god. “And you want that? You want to be with me forever?”
“Yes,” he said without even a split second of hesitation. “More than anything.”
“But you barely know me.”
His hand rested at the base of her throat, then slid lower until his palm rested between her breasts, right over her heart. “I know you, Meredith. I’ve known you since the moment I laid eyes on you. I may not know all the details of your life. I don’t know your favorite color, or food, but I know you.” He dragged his nose along her jaw. “You feel it too, don’t you, sweets? This unexplainable sense of rightness whenever we’re together. The connection, the feeling of being drawn to each other. This intense, raw, desperate hunger.”
They were both shaking now. “Y-yes…I feel it, all of it.” There was no denying the effect Kryos had on her. If she was honest, she’d felt it from the first time he walked into the diner and sat in her section.
“It’s not going anywhere, Meredith. It will always be there, drawing us together, pulling us toward the other. I want this, I want you. Tell me you’ll stay.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “Tell me you’ll be mine.”
Meredith stared into his beautiful eyes, heart racing. “I…I—”
Someone banged on the door.
Kryos growled.
“You in there, brother?” Rocco called.
Pressing a gentle kiss to her lips, Kryos straightened. “What is it?”
